SEN Teaching Assistant – Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time role starting in October and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent position depending on performance. The role offers a weekly salary of £419.25 - £500.

Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in providing tailored support to students with special educational needs, ensuring they have the resources and guidance necessary to thrive in their educational environment. You will work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other teaching staff to deliver personalized learning experiences that cater to each student's unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • One-on-One Support: Provide individualized assistance to students with SEN, helping them navigate the curriculum and overcome specific learning challenges.

  • Classroom Integration: Assist in adapting lesson plans and classroom activities to ensure that SEN students can fully participate and benefit from the educational content.

  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and document student progress, contributing to the creation and adjustment of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) based on observed needs and achievements.

  • Behavior Management: Implement effective behavior management strategies, supporting students in developing positive behaviors and self-regulation skills.

  • Inclusive Education: Promote an inclusive classroom environment by encouraging the active participation of SEN students in all aspects of school life, including academic and extracurricular activities.

  • Collaboration: Work in partnership with teachers, the SENCO, and external agencies to provide a cohesive and supportive learning experience for SEN students. This includes attending meetings and contributing to the development and implementation of IEPs.

  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies to support learning and behavior management both at school and at home.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with students who have special educational needs is highly desirable.
  • Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting young people with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to the needs of individual students and changing classroom environments.
  • A solid understanding of SEN strategies, including experience with IEPs and behavior management plans.
  • A passion for inclusive education and helping students with SEN achieve their full potential.
