Job summary

Ward E2 team at Stepping Hospital is looking for a Band 3 senior health care assistant to join our successful team.

Ward E2 is a 34 bedded medical. It a a mixed male and female medical geriatric ward.

Ward E2 is a busy ward with great job satisfaction. It is an area constantly developing with excellent learning and development opportunities. The teamwork between the medical , nursing and MDT ensures the constant delivery and focus on high quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

As a senior health care worker you will be expected to work within our dedicated multi-disciplinary teams and be fully involved in an individual's care from admission to discharge, assisting with patient hygiene and dressing, feeding, maintaining dignity and respect, keeping the environment clean and tidy and keeping good documentation.

Job responsibilities

Work within the ward/department setting, providing high quality, caring, compassionate and personal care to patients and their families/carers Work under the direction of the Registered Healthcare professionals and senior colleagues, both independently and as part of the multi- disciplinary team. Under the direction of a Registered Health Care Professional ensure a high standard of service provision within ward/department, by practicing effective clinical and administrative preparation, effective communication and care delivery, prioritising workload appropriately and contributing to service improvements Participate in giving compassionate high quality personal care to patients prioritising appropriately and developing competencies that safeguard practiceDevelop competencies appropriate to the role the role. Act always in a manner, which illustrates respect for privacy, dignity, equality, diversity, and confidentiality. Exhibit professional attitude and behaviour and always demonstrate excellent customer care skills. Contribute to effective team working by being fully involved, committed, and participating, to achieving own and others full potential. Working within both the day hospital and out patient areas within the department If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £ This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care Completed the National care Certificate Functional skills minimum Level 2 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent or working towards. Working towards or prepared to work towards obtaining a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare

Knowledge

Essential

Awareness and understanding of importance of confidentiality Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes

Desirable

Knowledge of the NHS Healthcare setting

Experience

Essential

Experience working in a healthcare setting. Experience of working in an NHS Outpatient setting Worked at a band 2 Health Care Assistant level or equivalent Experience of caring for patients.

Desirable

Experience of supporting Quality Improvement /audits / research and development activities

Skilles and Abilities

Good communication skills (written and verbal). Adapting style according to the audience Able to work in a team. Able to carry out routine duties. Able to adapt and reprioritise according to patients needs as necessary Able to work on own initiative in delivery of patient care Has good communication and customer care skills with patients and service users at different levels Basic Computer skills with ability / willingness to develop further IT skills. Certified training and possession of venepuncture, ECG and 'vital signs' competence Committed to delivering high standards of patient care Able to demonstrate a caring, friendly, open, empathetic and compassionate demeanour Professional outlook and positive attitude. Able to challenge unacceptable behaviour and escalate issues/ concerns both timely and appropriately Accuracy and attention to detail Caring/supportive attitude
