Our busy Highways business had a very good year in 2023, and 2024 is shaping up to be even better We have some exciting schemes coming to fruition which will be mobilising in the next few months. The projects involve earthworks, ground stabilisation and drainage and other elements associated with the construction of dual and single carriageways and roundabouts. We are looking for a Works Manager for a project in Colchester. As part of our Operational Delivery team within the Highways department, you'll play a crucial role in leading and managing site activities to achieve safe, profitable, and high-quality project delivery in line with our company's vision and values.

We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

 

You'll be working on…. (what your role and responsibility is)

  • Lead and manage site activities to achieve project goals in a safe, profitable, and planned manner.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, promoting Octavius's reputation and customer-centric approach.
  • Ensure high-quality project delivery, meeting customer expectations and feedback.
  • Promote the Octavius brand and uphold agreed values and behaviours.
  • Provide clear leadership, accountability, and performance targets for the site team.
  • Implement efficient systems and processes, ensuring compliance with standards and company policies.
  • Monitor financial performance and contribute to profit and loss management.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in project delivery.

You'll bring… (your wealth of experience & qualifications)

  • Has worked on a broad section of disciplines such as groundworks, RC structures, steelwork, and building and can demonstrate a clear knowledge in these areas. 
  • Experienced running roads or highways projects on National Highways infrastructure. 
  • SMSTS competent, Correct CSCS card,
  • Some knowledge of programming and Conditions of contract (NEC, ICE etc.)
  • Good level of IT skills.
  • Good appreciation of programming. 
  • Solid comprehension of drawings and technical knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • SMSTS competent
  • HND / HNC qualified (civil engineering or construction management)  (desirable)
