Clinical Technologist Lead

Applicants should hold a degree in a physical science together with a postgraduate qualification in medical physics or equivalent level of knowledge. Candidates should also hold appropriate registration (e.g. RCT/AHCS Practitioner register/ HCPC Radiographer) or be eligible to apply for registration.
Applications are also invited from experienced Clinical Technologists that could achieve registration within 12 months of taking up the post. Theseapplications will be managed under Annex 21 of A4C pay arrangements.
The team provide scientific support and expert advice in diagnostic radiology physics, radiation protection, radioactive waste management, and radiation emergency planning to Swansea Bay University Health Board and a number of other establishments throughout South-West Wales.
We are one of the major radiation physics service providers in NHS Wales and form part of a large, modern and well-integrated Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. The Department has strong links with the adjacent Swansea University and offers accredited training for Clinical Scientists and Practitioners.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of technical aspects of our X-ray equipment quality assurance programme and radiation protection services for the Health Board and its external customers. You will act as the professional lead for the technical staff in the group, providing day-to-day management.
Due to the nature of our service delivery a willingness to travel between sites and therefore a current UK driving license would be essential.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
- Honours degree or equivalent in Physics or Physical Science
- MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent level of knowledge
- Listed on Register for Clinical Technologists (or eligible to be on register)
- Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic X-ray equipment QA procedures
- Knowledge of relevant radiation protection legislation and guidance including IRR17 and IR(ME)R
Desirable
- Working towards or holding a management qualification (NVQ in management)
- Knowledge of the physics of imaging with ionising radiation and radiation detectors.
Experience
Essential
- Substantial experience of working in radiation protection in diagnostic radiology within the NHS
- Performance assessment of a wide range of diagnostic X-ray equipment
- Operating X-ray measuring equipment
Desirable
- Managing or supervising junior staff and/or trainees
- Managing a specialist area
- Working with thermoluminescent dosimetry systems
Aptitude and abilities
Essential
- Good spoken and written English and numeric skills
- Excellent team-working skills and ability to work independently.
- High level of physical skills with ability to perform scientific work, including measurement and adjustment with a high degree of accuracy and precision on highly complex patient-critical X-ray equipment
