Senior Clinical Technologist

The post holder is a senior post in MEMS (Singelton) but also expected to work across SBUH. They will have the requisite knowledge and skills to work independently with a range of high-risk medical devices, including ‘complex’ and ‘non-complex’ electrical medical equipment including; service checks, PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) checks, safety checks and calibration of such equipment (e.g. infusion devices, cardiac monitors, temperature measuring devices, OBS; observation devices) and also varied medical gas appliances (e.g. flowmeters, regulators and suction units).
The post holder will have the knowledge to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and have the autonomy to deal with issues within the remit of the post. The post holder will also help plan and organise the calibration of the departments test equipment used on complex and non - complex medical test equipment including gas test measurement appliances.
The post holder will be expected to carry out their duties within the workshop environment and in clinical environments i.e. Hospital wards, Theatres and Critical Care areas.
The post holder will also be expected to train end users in the use of medical devices, medical gas and suction equipment and some complex and non - complex electro-medical devices.
The post holder will be based at Singelton, where the major part of the duties will be delivered, but will be expected to work in other parts of the Health Board as required. e.g. Morriston and Neath Port Talbot MEMS departments as needed.
Supervising other staff, students and trainees is an integral to this senior role and experience in supervising, mentoring or carrying out formal assessments is an important requirement.
Membership of (or working towards) the RCT (Register of Clinical Technologists/AHSC) is essential for this role.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Provide a maintenance, repair and support service for a wide range of medical devices which will include highly complex, patient critical equipment, located in a wide range of clinical setting across the organisation.
Responsible for planning their own assigned work and, together with the section manager prioritise non-routine breakdown requests. Responsible for dealing with emergencies arising with equipment. Perform commissioning and acceptance tests on newly purchased and loan equipment.
The post holder will maintain and repair, a range of highly complex, patient critical medical equipment located throughout the organisation and will;
Participate in and contribute to the MEMS Quality Management System, adhering to the policies and processes at all times.
Work according to Health Board and Departmental policies and procedures and work with autonomy within the post holders assigned duties, making decisions within the scope of their competence.
Actively contribute to planning of service developments within MEMS, in conjunction with senior staff. and actively contribute to and support the development of changes in MEMS quality system that will have a specific
impact in their own area of competency but also generally within MEMS.
Provide assistance with the development of changes to Health and Safety Policies that will have an impact particularly in their own area of responsibility but also generally within MEMS. Assist the Quality System Team in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
