Swansea, United Kingdom Swansea Bay University Health Board Full time

We seek an enthusiastic and motivated Radiotherapy Physics Technologist / Dosimetrist to join the Radiotherapy Physics Service in the South West Wales Cancer Centre in Swansea.

The service supports a range of state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment that includes four Elekta linear accelerators (including SGRT and FFF capability), Philips wide-bore CT-scanner, Pinnacle treatment planning system utilising image fusion (ProSoma), auto segmentation and adaptive techniques (Mirada), and a well-developed oncology information management system (Mosaiq), all deployed in a Citrix environment to provide electronic access across the South-West Wales region to facilitate complete remote and paperless working. The service supports a flexible approach, including working from home, unsociable hours and weekend working.

Treatment plans are prepared for a number of clinical trials and clinical sites using techniques that include IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, 4D options and SGRT. The Cancer Centre is undergoing an equipment refresh: replacing our four linear accelerators and a dedicated new CT scanner. The SWWCC has an ongoing collaboration agreement with Elekta to develop the next-generation radiotherapy workflow management software tools.

You will work within the treatment planning and Mould Room as required, as part of a team or independently, providing a highly specialist clinical and technical service. You will be responsible, together with technologists, physicists and other planning group members, for preparing treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy. The duties will include operating computer systems for treatment plans, organ at-risk delineation and performing calculations relating to patient doses. Within the Mould Room, you will have direct contact with patients and work with oncologists and radiographers to produce individualised immobilisation devices. You will undertake measurement of radiation beams from the linear accelerators to verify treatment delivery accuracy.

You will be involved in the clinical developments of the department through the introduction of new techniques and the training of others.

Recently qualified BSc graduates with biology, mathematics, physics, or information technology education are encouraged to apply. Life science/anatomical knowledge is desirable in order to support delineation and automated pathway developments.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
