Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Counsellor in Psychology to come and work with us as a member of our Adult Eating Disorders Outpatient team.

The post is based at Forest Grange Outpatients, Bennion Centre, Leicester.

We are a highly specialised team providing psychological interventions for outpatients suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder.

Our team supports adults who have an eating disorder, providing individual care plans for recovery through evidence-based interventions and strong therapeutic relationships.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team helps your patients achieve their individual recovery goals.

The care provided can be both physical & psychological as our patients may need help with working on weight restoration, reducing compensatory behaviours or regularising their eating and need support with managing the mental challenges this can bring.

Experience of working with people with an eating disorder will be a particular strength for the right candidate.

You will be experienced in offering individual or group psychotherapy for patients and will have worked in a mental health setting, either inpatient, outpatient or community, to deliver this treatment.

Main duties of the job

To provide a qualified counselling service to patients within the Adult Eating Disorder Service To provide assessment and therapy and also to offer advice and consultation on clients psychological care to non-psychology colleagues and to other, nonprofessional carers To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall frameworks of the policies and procedures of the Department and Trust. To contribute to audit, policy and service development Be capable of making judgements about the needs of individuals, the identification of potential risks, and the possible requirement for more specialist assessment and treatment Monitor their own effectiveness with each patient and/or the presenting problem, to determine whether consultation or supervision from a colleague is required Be capable of monitoring a situation or intervention by some formal means of evaluation, and be able to modify the plan, treatment or intervention to obtain a better outcome. Develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or in complex situations Develop own skills and knowledge and provide information to others to help their development Support equality and value diversity

Essential

Significant supervised experience as qualified Counsellor, dealing with a wide range of emotional issues and using a wide range of therapeutic interventions Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team. Relevant CPD and training as required by the BACP or equivalent professional body ( in trauma and/or bereavement models) Evidence of continued professional development at post graduate level

Desirable

Experience of working in a setting with service users in inpatient and outpatient setting

Qualifications

Essential

Diploma in counselling Member of National Counselling, Psychology or Psychotherapy organisation BACP or equivalent accreditation or eligibility for accreditation

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of wider healthcare systems, NHS services and the role of psychological services within the NHS. Skills in managing time and workload in the context of multiple competing demands. Computer literacy and relevant IT skills. Evidence of good oral and written communication skills based on fluency on the English language. Skills in conceptualising, analysing and communicating complex information. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport, communicate empathically and sensitively in a manner appropriate to the context and recipient. Awareness of the potential impact of disadvantage, discrimination and adverse events on mental health.
