The Health Care Assistant is a member of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Neurodevelopmental team, who carries out assigned tasks, including essential patient care, and clinical care under the direction and supervision of a qualified nurse in accordance with Trust policy and practice. Main duties of the job

This role is primarily situated within the ADHD clinic and neuro assessment pathway. It offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a supportive team carrying out duties such a physical observations alongside development opportunities in training to administer applicable supportive diagnostic tools such as QB testing for children between the ages of 5 and 17.

This role will require the successful candidate to keep records of observations and support the teams in developing resources and tools for use with young people and their families

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Assisting the CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Pathway in the provision of high standards of patient care, recognising the needs of the individual patient.
- Preparation of equipment / clinical areas as required.
- Comprehensive understanding and regular use of computer technology and other assessment tools, such as QB (training will be provided)
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic requirements for normal health and childhood behaviours.
- Have awareness of the effect of clinic attendances and investigations on patients and family members. Maintain patient confidentiality. 

- To perform routine observations and childhood behaviours as appropriate, such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and assessment of BMI.
- Dealing with telephone enquiries and communicating effectively with the team, patients, and families, whilst maintaining patient confidentiality 

- Escorting and supporting patients attending for tests and investigations
- Chaperone and assist medical and clinical staff whilst undertaking patient examination /treatment.
- To follow current guidelines on safeguarding and understand the process to use to report concerns to ensure the safety of the child is paramount.

Desirable criteria

Previous experience of working within a Community Paediatric or Primary Care setting. Previous experience with clinical records or appointment systems. Experience of working with autism, ADHD and / or learning disability. All new starters have a 6 month probationary period.
