The position available is up to Hours per week, between - Monday to Friday. Althoughstandard hours will be agreed following interview, flexibility to vary hoursand cover colleagues absences is essential.

This is a busy andvaried role which requires a flexible approach, to help provide a first-classservice at our friendly and forward-thinking GP Practice. We are looking for ateam player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Adminexperience is essential, preferably in a medical setting with working knowledgeof EMIS Web and other Primary Care systems.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic Medical Administrator with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn to help us provide a first-class reception service.

Previous experience of working in a GP Surgery and knowledge of EMIS Web would be advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided for the right candidate who can demonstrate the following key skills:

Excellent customer service IT skills Communication skills (both face to face and on the telephone) Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage and prioritise workloads.

A brief overview of some of the main responsibilities of the role include:

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice. Promote full access to the practice via the front desk, telephone and online consultations/booking. Use EMIS computer system to book patients into appropriate clinics making best use of clinical time and expertise by using the appropriate dialogue to improve and maintain the practice Access targets.

Signpost patients to the external services available.

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures, make new and follow-up appointments and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.

Job responsibilities

The core responsibilities of the MedicalAdministrator role are to receive, assist and direct patients in accessing theappropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient andeffective way. Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project apositive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person orvia the telephone.

Ensurean effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and anyother visitors to the Practice. Promote full access tothe practice via the front desk, telephone and online consultations/booking. Use EMIS computersystem to book patients into appropriate clinics making best use of clinicaltime and expertise by using the appropriate dialogue to improve and maintainthe practice Access targets. Signpost patients to the external services available. Alwaysmaintain strict confidentiality. Dealwith all general enquiries, explain procedures, make new and follow-upappointments and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and promptappropriate delivery. Follow practiceprotocols and procedures. Opening and sorting themail in line with the practice protocol. Scan and work flow allcorrespondence, reports, results discharge letters etc promptly and accurately,using EMIS Web or DocMan 10. Action repeatprescription requests either manually or electronically using EMIS computersystem. Advise patients ofrelevant charges for private (non-General Medical) services, accept over the counterpayment and issue receipts for same. Ensure that all newpatients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately. Follow Health andSafety Regulations as set out by the Practice. Attending regular staff& training meetings and contribute towards these meetings. Undertake an annualAppraisal Meeting with the Operations Manager, with an interim 6 month progressreview. Take responsibility formaintaining a record of own personal and professional development. To be aware of the PracticeSafeguarding protocols and your responsibilities, to attend regular trainingand to escalate any concerns to the management team. Any other duties as delegated by the Clinical/ Management team.

Theremay be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with the general public, preferably within a service environment Experience of using computers, with good keyboard skills

Desirable

Previous experience of working in general practice, primary care or NHS.

Qualifications

GCSE English and Maths grade C or above (Or other level 2 equivalent)

Desirable

Any qualifications in administrative work such as typing should be included in your application
