A full time Substantive Consultant post has come available at Whipps Cross Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. This post is for interested candidates with subspecialty interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia, and has arisen due to service expansion, and expected staffing changes.

The appointee must be able to work flexibly and be able to cover all anaesthetic specialities provided for at Whipps Cross. There will be a requirement to join the out of hours consultant on call rota at Whipps Cross. Further details and sample job plan can be found within the Job Description.

Main duties of the job

A full time Substantive Consultant post has come available at Whipps Cross Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. This post is for interested candidates with subspecialty interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia, and has arisen due to service expansion, and expected staffing changes.

We are looking for people who can make a specific contribution to both departments and hospitals.

This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join a first-class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range of services to the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment.

The post holder will be an employee of Barts Health and there may be future opportunities or requirements to work at one of the other hospitals in the Barts Health group.

Person specification

Qualifications/Clinical Skills

Essential criteria

CCT in anaesthesia or, if in training within 6 months of CCT GMC Registered with a license to practise FRCA or equivalent Evidence of a fellowship/advanced training completion in obstetric anaesthesia

Desirable criteria

Evidence of anaesthetic experience looking after high risk parturients with cardiac comorbidity Evidence of completion of further fellowships/advanced training in subspecialities relevant to District General Hospital anaesthesia Experience of UK healthcare system Valid APLS/EPLS

Special Knowledge/Abilities and/or Experienc

Essential criteria

Wide experience in aspects of elective and emergency anaesthesia, and acute pain management Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients

Desirable criteria

Experience participating in a general on-call consultant rota in a District General Hospita

Personal Skills/Qualities

Essential criteria

Ability to communicate clearly and intelligently in written and spoken English Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, make decisions and exert appropriate authority. Ability to build strong and effective relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues

Desirable criteria

Ability to directing and train medical, nursing, midwifery and other professions allied to anaesthesia Ability to lead multidisciplinary protocol/process development

Teaching & Training

Essential criteria

Experience in teaching of undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses, midwifery or other health professionals allied to anaesthesia. experience of delivering obstetric anaesthesia teaching to colleagues and allied staff

Desirable criteria

Teaching Fellow experience/Certificate of education Evidence of training in teaching skills Instructor status in one or more of ALS, APLS, ATLS

Research, Quality Improvement, Audit

Essential criteria

Understands research, QI and audit methodology Experience of QI/Audit/Research work in Obstetric anaesthesia Actively encourages research, audit and QI work amongst staff and colleagues

Desirable criteria

Published or submitted completed work to a peer reviewed journa
