Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to apply for the role of Band 6 Anticoagulation Clinical Nurse Specialist on a permanent basis. We have multiple posts available with fulltime permanent contracts, however part-time hours may be considered. As a specialist department there are many opportunities for development, managing your own caseload and working alongside Haematology Consultants.

We have posts based at Heartlands & Good Hope Hospital but a requirement of the post is to ensure cross-site cover for Heartlands, and Solihull sites; however there is the potential for the role to link with Queen Elizabeth site as well. You will be working across all three hospital sites and in the community so access to your own vehicle and a clean driving licence is essential for this post. Mileage is payable as per Trust allowances.

Our team currently operates 8am-4pm Monday-Friday excluding bank holidays.

As a member of the team you will work closely with Haematology Consultants, Clinical Nurse specialists, Clinical Support Workers and Secretaries on the administration team to run nurse led clinics across 3 hospital sites, and in the community in patients homes and nursing/residential properties for patients on anticoagulation therapy.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include dosing and monitoring of patients taking Warfarin, educating and counselling patients on safe use of anticoagulants, liaising with ward teams to ensure safe dosing as inpatients and timely discharges, visiting patients in the community, venepuncture and point of care blood testing is also a requirement within this will need excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to deal with patients and relatives at a sometimes very anxious time, you will also need the ability to provide advice and guidance to medics, nurses and primary care. Timekeeping, punctuality and the ability to prioritise clinical workload is essential. Applicants with CNS experience are highly sought post involves nursing administration work, and you will need to have good IT skills and an awareness of clinical correspondence. We are looking for individuals with experience of consultation and history taking skills and the ability to plan care on a long or short term basis.Individuals with a Health Assessment qualification and Non-Medical Prescribing are highly sought after for this role. Applicants possessing qualifications and experience within this field are sought, but training can be provided to applicants who fulfil the minimum criteria within the person will receive full training and a period of supernumerary status, completion of a work base d competency is also a requirement.

Qualifications

Essential

* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration * Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6

Desirable

* Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification * Health Assessment, Clinical examination * Recognised mentorship course

Experience

Essential

* Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC * Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice * Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence * Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality * Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting * Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment * Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC

Desirable

* Experience in service development * Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator * Significant experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above in defined or associated speciality

* Ability to explain the requirement to balance clinical caseload and developing skills, knowledge and competence * Willingness to achieve competence in a range of clinical skills and expanded practices * Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance * Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances * Ability to work a varied shift pattern where required and ability to work across UHB sites or off site in NHS premises where required * Car Driver * Venepuncture * Competent in a range of clinical skills and expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required.
