Job summary

We are actively recruiting for a Radiotherapy Technical Lead. The role is available as one of our established Tech Leads has taken on the responsibility for Radiotherapy in the new Harborne Hospital based on site at the QE.

Our 100+ colleagues provide circa 4,500 new patients per year with world class radiotherapy treatments, utilising a range of procedures and technologies to ensure our service is of the highest calibre.

To join our Senior Management Team, applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent and be registered with the HCPC with significant experience as a senior radiographer. Professional development is high on our agenda, and we have a commitment to Radiographer led services, with role advancement offered or actively being developed.

This is a very exciting time to join UHB as we undergo significant organisational change and cultural transformation and as demand on the Radiotherapy service increases, we need to ensure continuity in staff and patient centred support and development.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide ongoing support and development to a highly skilled team consisting of Team Leaders, Senior Radiographers and Radiographers. You will act as a Technical Lead supporting your team with more complex treatments, providing guidance and clarity around best practice for patients.

The postholder will be expected to participate in all managerial responsibilities, sickness management and to represent the department at external meetings.

In addition to responsibilities for day-to-day management of staff and patients, the post holder will take a leading role in the current and future development of staff and services within Radiotherapy ensuring strategic plans are in place for all future development and will act as a resource for Clinicians, Radiographers and Medical Physics staff.

You will also be fundamental for the delivery of people strategies, addressing key people priorities with a person centred, solutions focussed approach. You will enable the development of staff experience, workforce planning, workforce design and change, culture and inclusion, and employee relations.

The applicant will be expected to participate in the technical lead rota to accommodate service demands as there is a requirement to routinely cover extended day working, Monday to Friday between to 8pm. In addition, there is a requirement to work bank holidays and some occasional weekend working in line with NRAG recommendations.

*Qualified Radiographer ( Diploma of the College of Radiographers -- Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography) *MSc in relevant subject ( Leadership, Management, Radiotherapy and Oncology) and / or equivalent experience / additional knowledge in the form of formal training / specialist knowledge *Current state registration *Attendance of recent relevant post graduate courses and study days *Evidence of interest and commitment in working towards further professional development and qualification

*Experience of working clinically at a senior radiographer grade with evidence of leading and organising a team of radiographers *Significant post graduate experience on a wide range of radiotherapy equipment to include recent and extensive experience at management level. *Experience in assessing and teaching radiographers and trainee radiographers *Experience of developing staff clinically and professionally *Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns *Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their effective management *An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines *Comprehensive understanding of IR(ME)R in relation to radiotherapy.
