We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to a part time Upholstery Technician to provide essential fabric covering solutions for assistive technology equipment (e.g. special seating systems) manufactured in the Rehab Engineering workshop.

Main duties of the job

The position is part time (15 hours) with the potential for additional hours to meet service needs. The successful applicant will work alongside an experienced upholstery technician already in post. 

Practising both independently and as part of a team, you will design and fabricate a range of equipment, e.g. complex bespoke seating and cushion covers, posture support pads and mattress overlays to meet the specifications as defined by the clinical assessors.

You should have a relevant qualification in textile crafts manufacture or upholstery (or equivalent experience). Applicants will need to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in upholstery, tailoring or dressmaking. The applicant will need to be an effective communicator and team worker. The ability to work to deadlines and a flexible attitude is essential.

The Rehabilitation Engineering Unit (REU) provides services to meet the complex needs of patients requiring engineering solutions to their wheelchair seating, mobility and pressure ulcer care across South West Wales. The unit is situated within the Specialist Rehabilitation Centre at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, providing modern facilities and state-of-the-art technologies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role offers the chance to improve patient's quality of life through the manufacture of assistive technology, working in a friendly, supportive and dynamic team of 20 staff. The REU team consists of Rehabilitation Engineers, Technicians, Clinical Scientists, Therapists, Nurses and Administrators who support the provision of assistive technology services to patients in the South West Wales region. REU continues to build on its award-winning reputation, delivering high quality, innovative patient care complemented by research and development activities linked with Universities in South Wales.
