This post is a 2 year fix term contract.
The appointed Neonatal Admission and Discharge Liaison Nursery Nurse will become part of the neonatal nursing and nursery nurse team.
The role entails supporting the neonatal nursing and nursery nurse team with providing information and support to parents and carers during admission through to discharge.
Empowering women in their choice of infant feeding and providing parents/care givers with additional education to support them taking care of their babies in the neonatal unit and beyond.
The post-holder will also be expected to support the Neonatal Feeding and Family Integrated Care Advisor with the implementation of UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative and maintain baby friendly standards across NWAFT as well as work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support accreditation of the Bliss Baby Charter to achieve and maintain gold standard status.
Main duties of the job
To be a clinical resource, providing visionary support and continuity, with a clear focus on resource on matters relating to infant feeding, parent education and health promotion in Neonatal Services.
To assist parents to develop their own parenting skills and to reinforce positive parental behaviour.
To support Neonatal Services to implement Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative Neonatal Standards cross site.
To act as a role model within NICU and demonstrate best clinical and professional practice and to provide appropriate support to women in respect of their feeding choices.
To support with delivery of care and discharge planning with external agencies such as community midwives, AHP's and health visitors.
To promote positive culture change within Neonatal Services, by raising awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and infant feeding relationships for health and wellbeing and supporting the delivery of local campaigns and aspects of multi-agency projects.
To promote evidence-based policies and procedures and use clinical presence to effect change.
To provide professional and clinical support to plan care where there is complex medical and social situations related to feeding and Family Integrated Care working closely with universal services.
To professionally conduct home visits as per current caseload management and visiting schedule

Management
1. Ensure that all contacts with neonates and visitors to the ward are handled in a sensitive and competent manner.
2. Act as a host to visitors to the ward and promote the profile of the ward/department.
3. Support new staff and participate in their orientation.
4. Ensure effective communications within the multidisciplinary team.
5. Maintain a happy and friendly atmosphere for patients in accordance with the unit philosophy of Family Centred Care and a positive environment for staff.
6. Support with assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care plans.
7. To advise the neonatal team on infant feeding strategic plans, service developments and operational issues relating to new national practices and guidance.
8. To ensure that all families receive support and information to allow them to make an informed choice regarding feeding.
9. Be familiar with multi-disciplinary guidelines and policies relating to infant feeding and supporting staff to evolve if there are any changes in practice.
10. To undertake audit using appropriate audit tools in order to evaluate and develop infant feeding practices with Neonatal Services both BFI and internal.
11. Support the discharge planning of babies needing a higher level of specialist breastfeeding assistance.
12. Demonstrate specialist and evidence-based knowledge on Infant nutrition including Infant milks and the International Code of Marketing for Breastmilk substitutes
Educational Role
1. Acting as a member of the ward team, contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the ward as a learning environment for students.
2. Assist in the mentoring process of Learner Nurses, liaising with the Clinical Educator / Ward Manager as appropriate.
3. Assist in the induction and supervision of new colleagues.
4. Participate in the teaching programme for learner nurses and parents/carers.
5. Attend mandatory training and complete online training as per Trust Policy.
6. Support with the delivery of education programmes to allow staff to implement BFI standards according to their role.
Human Resources
1. Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process
2. Complete all competency documentation as required subject to local guidelines
Clinical and Practice Governance
1. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
2. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
