Job summary
Hampton Medical Centre is looking to recruit an experienced Practice Nurse to join our friendly, thriving Practice, based in Hampton Shopping Centre, Peterborough.
You will be motivated, organised, supportive and flexible when working as part of our Practice Team. You will demonstrate compassion, integrity and excellent communication skills when dealing with our patients.
Being part of a training practice, you will be offered good opportunities for mentorship and further development.
Main duties of the job
General Nursing Duties which includes:
You MUST have past experience of a PN role in a GP surgery. Undertakes general Treatment Room duties including cervical smears, administering of immunisations and vaccinations, wound care, dressings, venepuncture, ECG recording, BP monitoring. Provides telephone advice, carefully documents consultations in the patient record. Family planning. Delivers Learning Disability Reviews. Management of long-term conditions where possible Health promotion.

We are a busy, energetic Practice, with a patient list size of 11,000 and a strong team of support staff and clinicians: 6 GPs, 3 ANPs, Physician Associates, Triage Nurse, Pharmacy Team, HCAs, Social Prescriber and Care Co-ordinators. Our team is friendly and supportive. We enjoy Practice gatherings and evenings out.

We are based in Serpentine Green Shopping Centre which offers excellent facilities: shops, services, gyms and dining. Hampton is still developing as a township of Peterborough with plenty of good quality housing and schools. Road networks are good.

Job responsibilities
GENERAL NURSING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs first aid / resuscitation as necessary and attends and keeps updated Basic Life Support training. Has an awareness of Health & Safety issues with specific regard to obtaining/disposing and collection of specimens. Ensures that all equipment used is safe and reports any concerns to the Business Manager or Partners. Ensures prescriptions they generate are appropriate, effective and safe and adheres to the relevant guidelines. To maintain accurate, contemporaneous healthcare records appropriate to the consultation. Ensure evidenced-based care is delivered at the highest standards ensuring delivery of high quality patient care. Works with local policies and procedures. Enhance own performance through Continuous Professional Development, imparting own knowledge and behaviours to meet the needs of the service. To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development in order to meet the needs of the service. To participate in the audit process, evaluation and implementing plans and practice change in order to meet patient need. Contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the team and work colleagues.Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures
Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs etc. Perform investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.Administration and professional responsibilities
Participates in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date, with accurate details recorded and amended Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately, reporting any problems to the Business Manager. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports and audit Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required Restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms PROFESSIONAL Professional Development/Responsibility: Ensures competency to undertake the duties outlined in this job description, attending relevant study days, as agreed by the Lead GP/Nurse to ensure her/his practice is within the framework of the NMC code of practice Ensures attendance at those mandatory Study Days that are necessary to fulfil the role of Nurse Practitioner. Carries out teaching/mentorship to other clinicians/health workers as necessary. Collaborates with other clinicians to formulate evidence based/relevant guidelines, policies and protocols. Undertakes any research/audit as felt necessary by the practice. Person Specification
