The Medical Division at the Norfolk and Norwich University Trust is looking for a Deputy Divisional Nurse Director, working daily with the Divisional Nurse Director as an integral part of the senior divisional triumvirate management team.

We are looking for someone with significant leadership experience, a natural collaborator, and a dynamic innovator. This role will bring opportunities for the right individual to make a significant contribution within the medical division whilst supporting the wider aspirations of the senior nursing, midwifery, and allied health professional team in delivering our strategy, objectives and aspirations for our patients, the people of Norfolk and our colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Divisional Nursing Director (DND), the Deputy Divisional Nurse Director (DDND) will lead on key aspects for the implementation and delivery of the Divisional vision and strategies. You will provide nursing leadership and direction to nursing staff and provide senior, expert advice on matters relating to nursing within the Division.

You will act to ensure safe, high quality patient care is delivered by an effective and efficient nursing workforce, will actively support the Divisional Triumvirate in service planning and will provide key contributions in development and implementation of the Division's strategic direction.

The post has the following key functions:

Professional and operational leadership Clinical Governance, safety and quality Assisting the Divisional Nurse Director, Chief of Division and Divisional Operations Director with workforce planning and Divisional strategies and service developments Managing nursing performance Divisional role taking responsibility and being accountable for a specific portfolio of work related to nursing and professional leadership, safety and quality, audit and research and workforce development.

Job responsibilities

Using compassionate and inclusive leadership skills you will promote high standards of clinical care. Governance and risk management is essential to patient safety therefore, you will need a good working knowledge to be able to support and to advise the team using PSIRF principles.

Communication skills are essential, along with self-awareness and emotional intelligence, to work with a wide range of individuals.

You will be instrumental in promoting the nursing agenda both divisionally and at Trust level by supporting the Divisional Nurse Director and deputising in their absence. You will be required to deliver nursing objectives that help transform patient pathways and improve patient experience and contribute to the nursing voice.

To work with the DND, COD and DOD in providing strong, clear leadership to the whole Division through team working to ensure effective nursing/AHP management and delivery of the services. To be responsible, with the DND, for the delivery of Divisional compliance with quality standards. To support the development of the strategy for the Division and ensure staff are fully engaged and supported in operational, governance and performance matters. In conjunction with the DND, to promote an evidence-based practice culture for all nursing and AHP staff within the Division, ensuring there are mechanisms for sharing good practice and disseminating evidence widely. To support the delivery of the NNUHs strategic aims and strategic objectives/deliverables. To support the DND in the delivery of services in line with the NNUHs financial strategy and SOPs. To contribute to the development and implementation of policies within the Division. To be professionally accountable to the DND for the quality and safety of the nursing and non-medical health professional services within the Division, and for maintaining professional standards and adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct and HPCC Code of Conduct. To support the ability of the Division to meet its annual accountability agreements, Divisional corporate objectives, and delivery programmes. To ensure that robust systems in place are maintained, to allow follow-up of action/learning from Governance issues, including trend analysis, identification of risks and improvements required. To provide leadership, management, and support to nursing/AHP managers to co-ordinate clinical services across the Division to ensure these run smoothly and efficiently.
