We have the rare and exciting opportunity for a passionate, innovative, and inspirational nurse leader to come and join our vibrant Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital as Matron for Children and Young People.

Our fabulous Jenny Lind incorporates Children’s Inpatient, Ambulatory, Emergency and Outpatient care. We treat children and young people across a broad range of specialties including Paediatric Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, plastics, and gastroenterology, including a dedicated level 2 PHDU. We offer care to children living in Norfolk and for those accessing specialist treatment across the Eastern Region.

The post holder will be responsible for managing the provision of the nursing service to a specified range of specialities within their directorate. Provide clinical, managerial, and professional leadership to ward and specialist nursing teams. Provide professional nursing leadership to outpatient areas within their directorate.

Assist the Divisional and Operations Service Managers to resolve capacity issues, as required. Oversee and ensure the effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of optimal quality patient care ensuring that nursing and health care standards are upheld. Be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing and corporate strategies and standards within their directorate.

Be responsible for the effective management of human and financial resources in order to achieve the performance management targets of the division. Work in collaboration with other agencies/organisations to deliver national, regional, and local agendas relating to their directorate. Advise the organisation on relevant issues regarding their directorate. Be responsible for the effective implementation of the responsibilities outlined in The Matron’s Charter. Actively contribute to the Trust’s Governance agenda.

1. Oversee the standard of care delivery within the directorate and develop strategies to address issues as they arise.
2. Ensure the safe, efficient and effective delivery of care across the directorate
3. Responsible for ensuring that clinical standards are delivered in line with national, regional and local policies, e.g. National Service Frameworks, Essence of Care clinical benchmarking, dissemination and implementation of best practice.
4. Monitor the implementation of Standards for Better Health within their directorate, e.g. Clinical Governance and Public Health agendas
5. Ensure that staff are updated on service changes and have the opportunity to communicate concerns.
6. Supports and ensures the development of a shared vision for nursing teams within the Trust
7. Provide specialist advice to senior members of management, medical and nursing staff on nursing issues that will influence the development of service planning and delivery.
