Job summary

The post is located in Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation NHS Trust, in our Acute Inpatients Service, based at the Oleaster Centre in Edgbaston, managing the psychology input to two Acute Inpatient Units and one Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). You will line manage a Band 7 psychologist, currently moving through preceptorship to a Band 8A post. You will also have the support of two Assistant Psychologists, be line managed by the Consultant Lead Psychologist for the Acute and Urgent Care Division and be part of an Acute (Inpatients and Home Treatment) and Urgent Care Psychological Service. You will also work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and other senior colleagues. Applications are also encouraged from forensic psychologists.

Main duties of the job

As an experienced clinical psychologist holding doctoral level professional qualifications, ensures the systematic provision of a highly specialist, multilevel clinical psychology service that is cost-effective, culturally appropriate and based on best clinical and professional practice and that meets Trust and Service Area objectives, national strategic, and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements and user and carer needs and expectations. To thereby help understand, prevent and ameliorate psychological distress and disorder and improve the mental health and well being of local service users.

Job responsibilities

As a qualified psychologist, assumes accountability for own professional actions, exercises discretion in determining how objectives are to be achieved and works independently on a day-to-day basis within the overall framework of relevant trust/team/service principles, policies and procedures, the professional codes of practice of the BPS and terms and conditions of employment.

Provides direct clinical services to clients, their families and other carers, undertaking highly specialist psychological assessments and providing individual and group based psychological therapy and intervention as appropriate and required.

Person Specification

Desirable/Essential

Essential

Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology (the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist post qualification, with extensive experience at the Senior (Band 8a) level.gistered with the HCPC Registered with the HCPC Experience of highly specialist psychological assessment and individual and group based treatment of clients across the full range of care settings

Desirable

Post-doctoral training in one or more highly specialist areas of psychological practice. Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of working therapeutically with 'difficult to treat' clients. Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
