Job summary

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Perform holistic, forensic clinical assessments for children, young people, and adults who experienced sexual assault, with a meticulous eye for detail. Interact sensitively, ensuring a trauma-informed approach to care supporting self-referrals along with police referrals. Uphold the highest standards of data integrity and confidentiality in documentation and evidence handling. Co-produce individual management plans tailored to the needs of each client. Provide testimony in court, contributing to the integrity of legal proceedings. Engage in ongoing training and professional development as part of our Novice to Expert programme. Lead initiatives, mentor peers, and engage in programmes designed to enhance professional skills and service delivery, including our part of the Lead role, additional responsibilitiesare for leadership and governance Overseerota to ensure compliance and access to services

Participate in the clinicalgovernance, ensuring compliance with health and safety, infection control, andforensic anti-contamination processes.

Participate in investigating incidents andcomplaints, ensuring implementation of action plans or recommendations. Conduct audits and contribute to research toimprove service quality Participate in the training and development programmes for sexualoffence examiners and the wider team. Conduct annual appraisals, peer reviews, andmanage ongoing performance of nurses.

About the Role:

As the Lead Sexual Offence Nurse Examiner, you will play a critical role in our multidisciplinary team, providing assessments and evidence that inform legal outcomes. Our Examiners are pivotal in ensuring high-quality care and evidential integrity for both children and adults who have been exposed to sexual violence.

To undertake clinical and forensic duties in the Sexual Assault Service, providing an immediate response to Children, Young People and Adult clients, by conducting a forensic medical examination after a sexual assault.

Providing written reports and advice to Police Officers and the SARC teams, Courts and attending Court to provide fact and opinion evidence as required.

Providing leadership to promote the service, undertake governance activities and ensure compliance with the Forensic Regulator supporting New Pathways.

This role is critical in offering dedicated care from the initial forensic examination, as often this is the first step in the client's journey of recovery, influencing both short and long-term health outcomes.

This includes self-referrals, police referrals and referrals from other organisations.

Working Hours:

Full-time is a 40-hour work to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Key Responsibilities:

The post holder will regularly be involved in communicating internally and externally with Health and Social Care professionals, as well as clients and carers.

Line management of their team will require the ability to create psychological safety within the team, promoting a trauma informed approach, facilitate reflective practice and reflexivity, acting as a positive role model. This includes upholding standards, showing care and compassion, but being able to feedback honestly to ensure competent staff.

The post holder will have excellent interpersonal skills and will function effectively within the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team, receiving and communicating information regarding clients care, organisational requirements and supervision.

The post holder will have the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in an understandable format to clients. Potentially, this may include telephone communication.

The post holder will be required to:

Receive telephone calls to organise examinations and will be required to coordinate the response of the examiners to the SARCs, provide advice and recommendations for the timing of examinations and manage crisis situations remotely. Receive and communicate complex and sensitive information on a daily basis. This may include giving positive results, which would have an impact on health, lifestyle and relationships Assess clients ability to give informed consent and consent for sharing across agencies for their participation in clinical activity Identify potential professional differences of opinion and manage these using motivational, influential and negotiating skills Includes communicating with a multi-professional team in other specialist services, such as sexual health Participate and chairing a range of meetings that support effective communications, regarding client care, organisational development, peer support and clinical supervision Communicate with external agencies Provide clear and concise written reports and statements detailing the findings of examinations Provide clear and concise oral evidence in court Perform holistic, forensic clinical assessments for children, young people, and adults who experienced sexual assault, with a meticulous eye for detail. Ideal Candidate:

Registered Nurses with experience or an interest in forensic and legal medicine and a minimum of 3 years post qualification. Committed to undertaking a comprehensive competency framework. Must have or be willing to work towards master's level study, complete educational courses and work towards being able to provide testimony to court.
