Position Overview

The Lead Nurse Manager for Emergency Services is responsible for delivering exceptional leadership and management of nursing personnel across the Emergency Care divisions.

Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses the following:

  • Providing effective professional guidance to departmental leaders and nursing staff to ensure the highest standards of clinical excellence.
  • Guaranteeing the availability of necessary support services to enhance patient care.
  • Maintaining a quality service while upholding rigorous infection control standards.
  • Offering a supportive presence for patients, their families, and staff, serving as a resource for assistance, advice, and prompt resolution of issues.

The successful candidate will be a respected leader, capable of empowering and developing nursing professionals within the clinical setting, while being accountable for maintaining professional nursing standards.

At this level, the individual is expected to operate independently and provide specialized guidance to colleagues, ensuring that service quality and performance targets are met. This includes supporting systems for professional revalidation and managing the performance of both individuals and nursing teams in relation to the quality and safety of patient care.

Main Duties

  • Lead and direct all registered and unregistered nurses involved in the delivery of Emergency Care services.
  • Inspire, guide, and motivate nursing and support staff to ensure professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness in service delivery, aligning activities with organizational plans and strategies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for any concerns related to Emergency Care services and manage nursing staff and resources within designated teams.
  • Engage in coaching, mentoring, resource allocation, standard setting, performance management, and team development to foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence.
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues to prepare documentation for any capital development projects and equipment needs.
  • Generate clear and concise analytical reports on complex matters, presenting logical arguments based on personal assessments and providing appropriate recommendations.
  • Operate within national and local strategies and policies, interpreting these to inform local policy development and enhance practice.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 with current NMC Registration.
  • MSc in Nursing or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or experience in related specialties.
  • Evidence of ongoing management development.
  • Recognized management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of current policies and issues in professional practice and the wider NHS.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the role and its significance within the organization.

Desirable:

  • Improving Quality Together (IQT Bronze/Silver).

Language Skills

Essential:

  • Supportive of the aims of the Welsh Language Act.

Desirable:

  • Ability to communicate in Welsh.
