Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled nurse to become part of our dedicated team of Asthma Interface nurses. This role will primarily focus on supporting healthcare practices in the designated region.

This is a part-time position, requiring a commitment of 15 hours per week.

The successful candidate will engage in a dual role, bridging both primary and secondary healthcare sectors. In the primary care setting, the nurse will collaborate with asthma service patient groups to assess their treatment and ensure compliance with established clinical guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

The nurse will provide tailored support to practice nurses, which may involve enhancing the skills of the practice nurse or managing complex cases in specialized clinics.

In the secondary care environment, the nurse will assist the severe asthma service by evaluating patients in a clinical setting under the guidance of the severe asthma lead. Responsibilities will include managing patients on biologic therapies and prescribing medications as necessary.

The nurse will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, presenting cases when required, and will initiate biologic treatments for patients who meet the clinical criteria. Additionally, patients who do not fulfill the necessary guidelines will be appropriately discontinued from treatment.

Patients identified in primary care as potential candidates for biologic therapy will be discussed with the severe asthma lead, and necessary assessments will be conducted prior to their clinic review.

Throughout the interface, the nurse will promote innovative practices in respiratory care, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between primary, community, and secondary healthcare services to enhance the patient journey.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse with Part 1 NMC registration
  • Possession of a degree or equivalent qualification, or relevant experience
  • Non-medical prescriber certification
  • Completion of an advanced respiratory course at the Master's level
  • Expertise in respiratory care, particularly in asthma management

Desirable:

  • ARTP accredited Spirometry certification
  • Advanced Inhaler Technique trainer qualification
  • Teaching certification
  • Experience in change management
  • Good Clinical Practice certification for research
  • Published research work

Experience

Essential:

  • Relevant post-registration experience, particularly in respiratory care
  • Experience with FENO testing as part of patient evaluation

Desirable:

  • Experience in both primary and secondary care settings
  • Experience in conducting audits, report writing, and presenting to healthcare professionals

Language Skills

Desirable:

  • Welsh language proficiency (Level 1)
