Job summary

As the out of hours Sexual Offence Nurse Examiner, you will play a critical role in ourmultidisciplinary team, providing assessments and evidence that inform legaloutcomes. Our Examiners are pivotal in ensuring high-quality care andevidential integrity for adults who have been exposed tosexual violence.

Due to the low volumes at Aberystwyth, we are developing an out of hours model and it isanticipated that call outs will be rare.

Work pattern:

Out of Hours Retainer to be paid from 5pm Monday to Friday until 9am the following morning. Out of Hours Retainer will be paid from 9am Saturday morning through until 9am Monday morning. The retainer is £12 per hour for all hours on-call and a call out fee of £200 paid for 4 hours, with additional hours paid at £50/hr.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Perform holistic, forensic clinical assessments for children, young people, and adults who experienced sexual assault, with a meticulous eye for detail. Interact sensitively, ensuring a trauma-informed approach to care supporting self-referrals along with police referrals. Uphold the highest standards of data integrity and confidentiality in documentation and evidence handling. Co-produce individual management plans tailored to the needs of each client. Provide testimony in court, contributing to the integrity of legal proceedings. Engage in ongoing training and professional development as part of our Novice to Expert programme. Lead initiatives, mentor peers, and engage in programmes designed to enhance professional skills and service delivery, including our partners.

Join Our Team: Sexual Offence Nurse Examiner - Out of Hours Aberystwyth

Location: Aberystwyth Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Currently based at BowStreet, but moving to a new state-of-the-art facility in Aberystwyth in 2025.

Due to the lowvolumes at Aberystwyth which are primarily in-hours, we are developing an outof hours model and it is anticipated that the call outs are rare, so will be anoccasional use. If called out, an examination lasts approximately four hours

Salary: The retainer is £12 per hour for allhours on-call and a call out fee of £200 paid for 4 hours, with additionalhours paid at £50/hr.

The Aberystwythservice has low volumes so staff will be required to undertake their trainingwhich includes didactic learning, clinical competencies developed throughsimulation but includes the opportunity to shadow at other SARCs. The rate ofpay for the day time training or meetings is based on the normal Sexual OffenceExaminer daytime rates of £ per hour. Quarterly simulation will be essentialfor this role if exposure to cases is less than one per month.

Off-site medicals are part of the roleand can include hospitals or other venues.

Ideal Candidate:

Registered Nurse with experience or an interest in forensic and legal medicine and a minimum of 3 years post qualification. Committed to undertaking a comprehensive competency framework. Must have or be willing to work towards master's level study, complete educational courses and work towards being able to provide testimony to court.
