Highly Specialist Perinatal Psychologist, Hillingdon Perinatal Mental Health Service

The opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Clinical Psychologist or Qualified Counselling Psychologist with HCPC Accreditation, to apply for a permanent Band 8a Perinatal Psychologist, (and Band 7 preceptorships to Band 8a) WTE for our Hillingdon Perinatal Mental Health Service.

CNWL Perinatal Mental Health Services (PMHS) comprise of four community teams, a mother and baby unit (Coombe Wood) and the Maternal Trauma and Loss Care Service (MTLCS). We are looking for a qualified psychologist to join our teams.

We are keen to expand our MDT to continue with the development of our psychologically informed pathways of care we offer to the women accessing our services; their babies, partners and family during the perinatal period (from pre-conception to 2 years of age).

Main duties of the job

We recognise that perinatal mental health is a specialist service and we are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to develop their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, leadership and confidence in working in this area. We are therefore looking for applicants who either have experience in perinatal services or have a good foundation with transferable skills and an interest in perinatal work.

We are looking for applicants for a Band 8a psychologist who is motivated and committed to contributing to the development of psychological therapies and the therapy pathways within our perinatal mental health services.

The post requires the candidate to provide well-formulated and evidence-based therapy, delivering teaching and training, developing and delivering group interventions, supporting MDT supervision, supporting with service evaluation and development projects.

For a Band 8a position we are interested in receiving applications from experienced Clinical Psychologists or Counselling Psychologist that may have additional qualifications and training, such as, BABCP accredited CBT, EMDR, Systemic and DBT.

Band 8a (and Band 7 preceptorships to Band 8a) psychologists are in positions of leadership within our perinatal services. We are looking for a motivated and committed psychologist who is passionate to lead the development of psychological therapies and the therapy pathways within our perinatal mental health services.

The perinatal mental health service is committed to developing our workforce and offer the recruit to train model. We are able to provide training and supervision in EMDR with the intention to support the preceptorship (band 7-8a), once qualified. For a Band 8a position we are looking for a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with a training, qualification and accreditation in a second therapeutic model (desirable)

The role will be three days a week, with an expectation that one of these days would be a Thursday to attend the team meeting. Although the role would generally be expected to work within normal working hours, the successful applicant would be expected to have the flexibility to work occasionally extended opening hours to facilitate early or late clinic appointments, home visits or training. Working locations will be a combination of community home visits, clinics and remote working.

The team works closely with Maternity, as well as with local community and inpatient mental health services, primary care services, social services and a wide range of other statutory and third sector organisations.

The applicant must have excellent clinical skills and experience with a wide variety of patient groups across the whole life span. In addition to the focus on maternal mental health, specialist perinatal mental health services also consider the family context and the infant and parent-infant relationship.

Applicants must have a proven ability to formulate, document, implement and review plans for the psychological treatment and management of women with a full range of clinical presenting problems. They should demonstrate and ability to thoroughly assess risk, formulate safe and effective risk management plans and document and communicate these clearly and effectively.

We are looking for well-rounded and experienced psychologist with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They must be keen to work pro-actively and be confident and motivated as well as flexible and able to show must be robust and resourceful and willing to work in an environment which can be demanding and challenging.

We expect applicants to have experience of managing their caseloads in a complex multidisciplinary/multiagency context. We also expect applicants to have experience of participating in formal child protection procedures and of being involved in interagency work with families. An awareness of current policies and practice in this area is essential.

Experience of delivering supervision, models of supervision and training to be a supervisor. Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts. Training & Qualification

Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS and accredited with HCPC Proof on ongoing CPD and training to ensure up to date practice and application of skills.

Desirable

Post-graduate training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice related to perinatal mental health such as CBT, family therapy, DBT, VIG etc. Post-graduate training and qualification in supervision of specialist model.

Experience leading a working group or project group. Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups ( personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc). Evidence of training and qualification in second therapeutic model. Ability to complete and interpret structured standardised cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessments. Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, service evaluation and audit design.
