Hello, I am Dr Ian Watkiss, the lead for the Derbyshire Autism Service.

We are hoping that you will join The Division of Psychology & Psychological Therapies (DP&PT) in Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT)

We have an exciting part time post for a registered (or soon to be qualified) Clinical Psychologist to work with people within the Specialist Autism Team within the adult neurodevelopmental services.

This is an opportunity to join the Division of Psychology & Psychological Therapies, with dedicated psychology leadership and a vision to support all people in Derbyshire to live their best life.

The post includes assessment and interventions as part of a specialist multi-disciplinary service, supervision and training, service development and research.

The team is passionate about their work, embracing psychological understandings from a person-centred perspective, from a variety of models and approaches. This post will contribute as part of a wider psychological support structure across the ANS and DP&PT within the Trust. 

We will consider applications for either:

Band 8a or Band 7/8a (development post) from a registered (or soon to be HCPC registered) Clinical Psychologist part-time  applications -

Main duties of the job

This post is within the Specialist Autism Assessment Team who have autism, and are part of the Adult Neurodevelopment Service.

The role involves working alongside a range of experienced psychologists within the Division of Psychology & Psychological Therapies, whilst embedded within the MDT structures of the Adult Neurodevelopmental Service.

The successful candidate will provide therapy and intervention from a psychological model of care. The role involves providing consultation, advice, specialist therapeutic input and research/service evaluation into the service and support to other psychologists, trainees, and assistants to provide the best service possible.

The role involves contributing to the development and delivery of a new service to meet the needs of those with autism within Derbyshire. You will play a key role in the continued development of the service, working closely with community services, multi-agencies, third sector and other key stakeholders, to support individuals who are in crisis or require an intensive community response; ultimately aiming to maintain the adults with autism within their own home setting.

You will work alongside our expert and well-established ASD assessment team to make sure that client needs are met.

Attainments and Qualifications

Essential criteria

Post–graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology or due to complete training in 4 Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (or eligible if due to complete training in 2)

Desirable criteria

Post qualification training in supervision Post qualifications in area of speciality Skill and experience relating to the assessment and management of risk for adults with autism

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working as a qualified (or soon to be) Clinical psychologist in a relevant clinical speciality. Experience in working with adults with autism, their families/carers in community settings Experience of working with multidisciplinary staff teams and interagency working to support the delivery of therapeutic care Experience of providing teaching, training and supervision

Desirable criteria

Experience of specialist assessments for autism for psychological needs Experience of working with clients with complex mental health problems Experience of working with clients who present challenges to services, where risks of self- harm or harm to others is a key feature

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

Very high level of communication skills in written format Skills in providing consultation and supervision to non-psychology colleagues and teaching/training skills Knowledge and skills in the application of clinical psychology assessments and interventions in different cultural contexts and where there are communication/language barriers

Desirable criteria

Highly specialist assessment and therapeutic skills related to complex, severe and enduring psychological problems experienced by adults with autism, with additional complex needs including communication difficulties, sensory difficulties, complex trauma histories, comorbid mental health needs and who present complex challenges to services Skills in adapting knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies and methodologies to adults with autism with associated complex needs
