The role of European Head of Ethics & Compliance is to implement and maintain a best-in-class compliance program for Pilgrim’s Europe. Pilgrim’s Europe is comprised of twelve trading companies including Pilgrim’s UK, Moy Park and Pilgrim’s Food Masters UK.

The European Head of Ethics & Compliance will report to the Head of Ethics and Compliance for Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation and will be responsible for leading and managing the Ethics & Compliance Team in Europe. The role is responsible for: promoting a compliance culture within Pilgrim’s Europe; providing compliance training to Directors, management, and employees; implementing global compliance initiatives; and providing compliance advice and guidance as needed.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enhance and protect the company’s reputation by providing timely and high-quality ethics and compliance advice to all areas of the business, either directly or by engaging appropriate external advisers.
  • Initiate, design, develop, maintain, and revise compliance policies and procedures, taking into account internal and external factors, new and emerging risks, and the global compliance program.
  • Create and implement annual compliance communications and training plans.
  • Prepare monthly reports on compliance performance of the Pilgrim’s Europe and participate in monthly global compliance leadership calls.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit, HR, Finance and other business units to develop metrics for identifying, measuring and testing risk controls and mitigation.
  • Staying current and aware of industry best-practices and emerging risks to maintain a best-in-class compliance program.
  • Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive of the performance of the Ethics & Compliance team.
  • Assess training materials (both internally-developed and outsourced e-learning modules), train, and promote the effort to raise awareness and maintain compliance to all relevant laws and regulations, including: data privacy; anti corruption; antitrust; and criminal finance laws.
  • Work with the Training team, provide consistent, reliable and accurate reporting on compliance training activities.


The role will include the following specific areas of compliance:

Vendor Management

  • Assessing compliance risks associated with new suppliers, in line with global policies
  • Implementation of the Lextegrity Compliance Management tool for the Group.
  • Support the management and response to Data Subject Access requests.


Anti-Corruption

  • Actively promote and ensure the use of the gifts and hospitality reporting process.
  • Support managers in determining whether requests are within the policy.
  • Co-ordinate periodic reviews and complete risk assessments of supplier base in relation to compliance with anti-corruption policies.
  • Monitor and audit gifts and hospitality reporting.


Criminal Finances Act Compliance

  • Work with the PSS finance team to organise risk assessments to review business performance against legislation.
  • Support implementation of any recommendations from the risk assessment.
  • Audit compliance annually.


Conflicts of Interest Register

  • Maintain the Conflict of Interest Register.
  • Monitor and audit Conflict of Interest reporting.


Anti-Trust Compliance

  • Work closely with the European General Counsel to:
  • Co-ordinate periodic reviews and complete risk assessments across the European Group in relation to anti-trust compliance. Develop guidance and action plans to address identified risks.


Whistleblower Reports

  • Work jointly with Internal Audit and manage investigations into anti-corruption and fraud issues reported to the company.


Duties

  • Effective delivery of the Ethics & Compliance programme.
  • Measure team and individual performance against agreed goals aligned to Global Ethics & Compliance objectives and regional requirements.
  • Conduct quarterly Ethics Committee meetings with European CEO, CFO and Chief People Officer.
  • Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive the performance of the Ethics & Compliance team.
  • Provide strong relationship management and client satisfaction.
  • Standardise compliance procedures across the Group where possible, in order to improve efficiency and increase the opportunity for cost savings.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Highly experienced, (UK qualified) lawyer or compliance professional accustomed in managing challenging compliance issues in a complex multinational group.
  • A proven track record in the compliance field for circa 8 years.
  • Excellent ability to gather and organize information, organize and analyze it as necessary to develop appropriate options and actions.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work independently and accept ownership of issues, whilst also being part of a collaborative team with a single goal of establishing a best in class compliance programme.
  • Familiar with operational, financial, quality assurance, and human resource procedures and regulations as required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and achieve objectives within specific guidelines, timeframes, and constraints.
  • Possesses flexibility to respond to rapidly emerging challenges and risks.
  • Experience in auditing and monitoring.
  • Awareness of how decisions might have an impact on all stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess risk and reach appropriate proportionate solutions.
  • Project management experience.
  • Flexibility to travel as required to meet the demands of the role across the UK and Europe.
