Head Gardener

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to lead our team at Belton Estate, a 17th Century mansion and one of the top ten pay for entry visitor businesses in the National Trust.

As Head Gardener, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and long-term planning of the garden, working closely with the Property Leadership Team to integrate the gardens into the whole estate experience.

You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of staff and volunteers, sharing your passion for gardening and working with the visitor experience team to champion our cause and engage visitors with the beauty, nature and narratives of our garden.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse garden throughout the seasons, drawing on your excellent knowledge of plants and plant care.
• Lead a team of staff and volunteers, setting high standards for yourself and those around you.
• Manage operational risk and compliance requirements relevant to horticulture.
• Work closely with experts from our internal consultancy and connect externally to ensure you're always learning from others and identifying partnership opportunities where relevant.
• Manage resources, budgets and work plans to ensure quality delivery.
