Commercial Manager - Steel Construction


Location: Haverhill, Suffolk, with projects across construction sites in and around London


About the Role:

Are you an experienced Commercial Manager with a deep understanding of the steel and construction sectors? Do you have a knack for keeping projects on budget and ensuring materials are optimally managed? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.


Our client, a rapidly growing steel contractor, is seeking a Commercial Manager to join their team. This role is based in Haverhill, Suffolk, with frequent travel to various construction sites in and around London.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Regularly visit project sites to monitor costs and materials, ensuring everything stays within budget and on schedule.
  • Cost Control: Oversee project variations, costings, and materials to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Contract Management: Review contracts and manage subcontractor applications, ensuring compliance with all terms and conditions.
  • Strategic Planning: Work closely with the project team to forecast needs and plan for future requirements.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain excellent communication with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.


Experience and Skills Required:

  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the steel and/or construction industries.
  • Project Management: Proven experience in managing construction projects, particularly in cost control and material management.
  • Contract Review: Expertise in reviewing contracts and handling subcontractor applications.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse project data and make informed decisions to keep projects on track.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with all stakeholders.
