Summary


SailGP is looking for an 12 month maternity cover for the Head of Strategy & Programmes, this role will be responsible for the oversight of delivery against the SailGP Season 5 plan, development and finalization of the next five season strategy and implementation plan (2026-2030), the strategic projects and programmes portfolio and input into transformational projects as required.


Key Responsibilities


The role is made up of four key areas: (1) strategy development and planning, (2) oversight and delivery of strategic programmes and projects, (3) strategic business support and (4) team management.


Strategy Development and Planning

  • Lead the development of SailGP’s next five season strategy.
  • Work closely with Directors and Heads of Function to oversee the delivery of SailGP’s season 5 plan.
  • Responsible owner for the development of SailGP’s season 6 plan.
  • Evolve the fit for purpose reporting process to keep the Leadership team and wider business informed of delivery against the seasonal activity plan, including robust KPI reporting.
  • Lead and facilitate Directors and Heads of Function to develop department specific strategies as and when required.


Strategic Programmes and Projects

  • Project Manager for the delivery of strategic projects where required.
  • Oversee the delivery of SailGP’s first Project Office which is managed by the Strategic Project Manager.
  • Accountable owner for the projects and programmes risk portfolio, ensuring these are resolved within a timely manner.
  • Ensure that dependencies across the business are understood, aligned and compliment business wide transformation.
  • Lead the upskilling of project management capability within SailGP through owning the project management tools, training and support provided.


Strategic Business Support

  • Work with C-Suite, Directors and Heads of Department in the business to deliver Team Strategy sessions to ensure all teams understand the business priorities.
  • Support C-Suite, Directors and Heads of Department with strategy development and planning to meet their specific needs.


Strategy Team Line Management

  • Line management of the Strategic Project Manager and Strategic Project Associate.
  • Nurture the team of strategy professionals with specific experience in strategic planning, projects and programme management to effectively support the delivery of business objectives.
  • Have ownership and responsibility for progress and results produced by the strategic planning and programmes team.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the role.


About You

  • Strategy development experience, having worked on the development of a corporate business strategy.
  • Significant strategic planning experience, having led the development of a business activity roadmap / delivery plan.
  • Strong programme and project management experience with a record in designing and implementing programme frameworks and approaches to deliver strategic objectives.
  • Ability to distill and present complex information into a clear set of options to drive effective and efficient decision making.
  • Ability to strategize constructively with key stakeholders and team managers to work towards the bigger picture.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with experience of developing and sustaining high performing teams.
  • Able to constructively question stakeholders with confidence to arrive at a clear view on issues and opportunities.
  • Capacity to embrace change and respond to new situations. Ability to successfully manage the demands of a dynamic planning environment.
  • Highly proficient in business management software including analysis, presentation and programme management tools.
  • Proficient written and verbal skills with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to operate both independently and in a team.
  • Adaptable and flexible with a can-do attitude and an ability to build strong working relationships.
