Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers. An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Business Development Executive to join our existing team.


The successful applicant will be responsible for establishing, communicating and championing the delivery of strategic action plans and will be the point of contact for business opportunities across agreed regions.


The Business Development Executive will drive the development of products and services, analyse recent sales trends, consider the potential for distributors and initiate a global approach to business development for product ranges.


Key Accountabilities & Duties:

  • Carry out all activities in full compliance with H&SE legislation, within company policy and procedure.
  • Responsible for reporting any unsafe acts or unsafe conditions observed (using the Near Miss System) in accordance with responsibilities under the Health and Safety at work Act.
  • Conduct all activities in an ethical and legal manner and in accordance with Chemring Group’s Global Code of Business Principles and its Bribery Act Compliance Manual.
  • To develop ongoing business opportunities worldwide, with focus on key regions as defined by the role.
  • Establish, develop and maintain strategic relationships with key customers to deliver customer satisfaction and profitability to CEUK.
  • Where required, support the development of a network of approved agents to support business opportunities.
  • Research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services - or new ways of reaching existing markets seeking out the appropriate contacts generating leads and opportunities.
  • Work with existing customers to maximise current sales ensuring that additional product opportunities are exploited (range selling).
  • Arrange regular meetings with customers / clients face to face or virtually.
  • Foster and develop strong relationships using key account management with customers / clients ensuring benefits can be recognised by both parties.
  • Think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business.
  • Work strategically - carrying out necessary assessments and planning in order to implement operational changes.
  • Have a good understanding of the businesses' products and services and be able to advise customer / clients on their application and performance.
  • Discuss promotional strategy and activities with marketing.
  • Liaise with marketing, finance, engineering, operations and logistics departments as appropriate.
  • Attend seminars, conferences and events where appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of customer and market trends and changes in the business environment.
  • Coordination of costs, generation of technical and commercial proposals in order to respond to customer requirements.
  • Deliver the budgeted sales targets, for the agreed sectors, in line with the company’s 5yr operating plan.
  • Provide coordination of the development of new products, services and sales opportunities
  • Support the development of business cases necessary to underpin the creation of viable, profitable new products, services and capabilities.
  • Responsible for providing updates and guidance concerning business performance-related decisions and opportunity prioritisation.
  • Provide support, as required, to meetings with external funding agencies, customers, academia and industrial partners.
  • Generate regular reports on customer activity, revenue and performance as required.


The Candidate:

  • Must have personal commitment to Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Strong bias for action to identify potential problems and co-ordinate a resolution before they become an issue.
  • Continually seeks to identify new ideas and implement new opportunities, which deliver business benefit.
  • The ability to build and develop effective relationships and use these to improve performance.
  • Strong IT, excellent communication and team working skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of company policy and operating procedures in order to full compliance.


Qualifications/Experience:

Essential:

  • Customer facing experience, ideally within a Business Development, Sales, Project Management or Account Management capacity.
  • Understanding of engineering principles.
  • Compliance with legislative, HSE and Company processes and procedures
  • Persistent, resilient, influential, driven, high integrity.
  • MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, Teams & PC skills
  • Ability to manage and work within agreed budgets.

Desirable:

  • Professional membership of appropriate body
  • Experience of key markets, product development and energetic materials / products would be of benefit.
