York, United Kingdom English Heritage Full time

Heritage is for everybody, and we are here for heritage.
Heritage lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions. It can connect us all to the past, and to each other. It can make us happier, strengthen every community, and help shape society for the better. Everybody should be able to enjoy the benefits it brings.
That's why, as a charity, we care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. And it's why we open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, learn, play and create.
We are looking for a Documentation Officer to join our team. The role is full time and permanent. You will be working 36 hours per week.
Working as part of a national documentation team, you will help to ensure that the National Heritage Collection is documented to appropriate national and international standards to support collections development. You will work alongside a number of teams including Curators, Collections Management and volunteers. You will be responsible for specified documentation priorities, advocate and support improving and enhancing data, support internal training and develop expertise in specified areas of collection documentation.
Although this role is based at one of our Collections Hub Stores, your remit will be national, therefore, this role requires frequent travel to sites that are often in remote locations and occasional overnight stays away from home.
This role also requires a basic DBS check.
As Documentation Officer, you will help implement documentation work outlined in the National Documentation Strategy, working to priorities and supporting national requirements including re-presentation and research projects, collections moves and backlog legacy reconciliation.
You will need experience of carrying out museum documentation across a wide range of collections, object handling, packing, movement, entry and exit procedures. We are looking for someone who has exceptional attention to detail and an ability to problem solve.
**To be considered as a Documentation Officer, you'll need**:

- Experience of carrying out museum documentation.
- Experience of using a museum's collections management system.
- Experience working with a wide range of museum collections.
- To be able to manage multiple workstreams.
- An ability to communicate information clearly, concisely and authoritatively.

Due to staff annual leave, interviews will be held on Tuesday 22nd July at Helmsley Archaeology Store, York.
Everybody's welcome at English Heritage
Forget the stereotypes. It takes thousands of people from every background to care for England's heritage and open it up for everybody to enjoy. We're looking for every type of person with every kind of skill and experience, and we're committed to making sure that English Heritage is an equitable, diverse and inclusive place to work. You can connect with others through our EDI networks as a member or ally. These include Ethnic Diversity, Faith & Belief, Social Equity, LGBTQ+, Neurodivergence, Age, Disability and Gender Health and Wellbeing.
We take wellbeing seriously. We are committed to ensuring everyone feels safe at work and can carry out their role. To support this, we have a network of Mental Health First aiders, regular information and awareness events, unlimited access to an Employee Assistance Programme and work with our people to implement reasonable adjustments.
