Residential Support Worker – Children's Home

A Residential Support Worker (EBD) provides care and emotional support to children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) in a residential care setting. The role involves building positive relationships, promoting resilience, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop and thrive. Whilst also advocating and being their voice.
Key Responsibilities:
Care & Support:
- Provide consistent care, supervision, and emotional support to children and young people.
- Assist with daily routines, including meals, personal care, and bedtime routines.
- Encourage independence and life skills development.
Behavioural & Emotional Support:
- Support young people in managing their emotions and challenging behaviours positively.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and therapeutic approaches.
- De-escalate situations and provide a calming presence in times of distress.
Safeguarding & Welfare:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all young people in your care.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures to protect children from harm.
- Report and document any safeguarding concerns promptly.
Activities & Engagement:
- Plan and participate in activities that promote social, educational, and emotional development.
- Support children with school attendance and educational engagement.
- Encourage involvement in hobbies, sports, and community activities.
Record-Keeping & Communication:
- Maintain accurate records of children's progress, incidents, and daily reports.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, therapists, schools, and families.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and contribute to care planning.
Essential Skills & Qualities:
- Compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to working with young people.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain calm in challenging situations and manage crisis interventions.
- Understanding of trauma, attachment, and behaviour management strategies.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overnight stays.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
- Previous experience working with children with EBD, trauma, or challenging behaviours.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, therapeutic approaches, and de-escalation techniques.
- A valid UK driving licence.
