You will work closely with pupils with Autism, SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and PDA profiles, using the power of music and sound to support emotional regulation, communication, expression, and interaction. Aspiring Music Therapist – Learning Support Assistant Hillingdon – Education and Training – Aspiring Music Therapist – Learning Support Assistant Hillingdon Key Responsibilities Provide personalised support for pupils with Autism, complex SEMH needs, learning differences, and PDA profiles. Use music-based approaches to help pupils develop emotional regulation and communication skills, especially those who are non-verbal or anxiety-driven. Support a range of learners, including: pupils who communicate through non-verbal or alternative methods sensory seekers and deep listeners highly able pupils who mask their needs Apply Music Therapy–informed strategies such as: rhythm-based regulation activities (drumming, tapping, beat-pattern routines) sensory sound exploration (instruments, vocalisation, soundscapes) low-demand, choice-based activities for pupils with PDA profiles to reduce perceived pressure Use trauma-informed and low arousal approaches to maintain a calm, safe and predictable environment. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, pastoral teams, and specialists. Implement IEPs, emotional regulation plans, and Music Therapy–linked communication strategies. Monitor progress and observations, contributing to pupil profiles and support plans. Encourage a nurturing, inclusive, and empowering environment where pupils can thrive creatively. Aspiring Music Therapist – Learning Support Assistant Hillingdon – Education and Training – Aspiring Music Therapist – Learning Support Assistant Hillingdon Ideal Candidate Background or interest in Music Therapy, Psychology, Creative Arts, SEN, or Child Development (a degree is desirable but not essential). Experience supporting children or young people with SEND is advantageous. Passionate about using music as a therapeutic tool for emotional expression and regulation. Calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient when supporting pupils with high anxiety or challenging behaviour. Strong interpersonal and reflective skills.
