Specialist Clinical Lead - Alcohol and Substance Misuse An exciting opportunity to become the Substance Use Clinical Lead Nurse within the award-winning Liaison Team based at Chesterfield Hospital has arisen. This exciting internal secondment opportunity requires an immediate start due to the short time frame of funding until 31st March 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for an NMC Registered Nurse who has a passion for ensuring patients with alcohol or other drug misuse problems receive high quality care during periods of hospitalisation. The right candidate requires working knowledge of Mental Health Liaison Team and the acute hospital setting of CRH.
Candidates must obtain prior approval from their current line manager before applying for the post.
Main duties of the job Work as part of the Liaison Team at the Chesterfield Hospital site delivering specialist alcohol & other drug misuse assessments and treatment interventions to service users on inpatient wards and Emergency Department of Chesterfield Royal Hospital (CRH). Promote and support service user and carer involvement. Respond to the needs of people in an honest, non-judgemental and open manner which respects the rights of individuals and groups. Work closely with colleagues to ensure that clinical services are delivered to the highest standard and in accordance with the most recent evidence-based guidance. Be personally accountable for their own professional practice that will be delivered in accordance with the legal and professional responsibilities outlined by the NMC. Ensure that services are provided in a safe and supportive environment and at all times adopt a professional approach to your work promoting a positive image to service users/ carers and the general public. Always act in a way which reflects both the word and spirit of the Trust's Values and Principles. Provide strong clinical leadership ensuring evidence-based practice within the service. Lead on developing the service and new ways of working to meet locally commissioned and national targets. Have experience of providing training on alcohol and drug misuse within the Liaison Team and to colleagues in the Acute hospital settings of CRH. Providing supervision to junior team members as required to support care plan formulations. The post holder will manage a caseload of complex liaison cases normally related to substance misuse or alcohol. There will be times when the post holder will be required to take on clinical work from other Liaison areas. Demonstrate robust clinical skills and knowledge around the acute management of substance misuse and alcohol withdrawal in an in-patient setting. To ensure that all assessments take into account appropriate risk factors and that an appropriate risk management plan is developed with supervision for all assessments undertaken. Providing supervision to junior team members as required to support clinical risk management plans. To liaise with and refer to services both in hospital and the community in regard to any issues as necessary maintaining and developing excellent collaboration with appropriate services. To be available as a resource for acute service staff, providing input into the management of liaison psychiatry, acting as an available resource on site. To lead or participate in monitoring the service at defined intervals, assisting in the making of recommendations regarding this team. To be involved and provide training, presentations and seminars to staff from the acute trust. To provide an appropriate support for relatives, friends and carers or those people who come into contact with the Liaison Service. To use the clinical information system in order to enter clinical data in conjunction with the teams quality standards. Person Specification Education / Qualifications NMC Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) Educated to Diploma/Degree Level (i.e. Dip HE Nursing) Evidence of up to date Personal Development Plan, Professional Portfolio Non-Medical Prescriber Experience / Skills Substance use specific working knowledge of Liaison Team and acute hospital setting (recent and relevant) Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Key Principles of Liaison Psychiatry Demonstrate the ability to co-ordinate and lead multi-professional teams Demonstrate the ability to lead the clinical team in a service user / carer focused way. Demonstrate clinical skills and knowledge around the management of substance and alcohol withdrawal in an acute hospital in-patient setting Clear evidence of delivering drug and alcohol training to the acute hospital setting Demonstrate the ability to deliver Clinical Supervision within an effective model.
