Job summary Worcestershire Acute Hospital NHS Trust is looking for anexperienced Occupational Therapist who is highly motivated, a strategic thinkerand a compassionate leader who can collaborate and influence multiple keystakeholders.
This post holder will lead on the provision of equitable Therapywithin the defined portfolio (specialty Medicine) across the three sites of theWorcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, ensuring clinical services are highquality and evidence based.The post holder will work alongside the other TherapyManager (Therapy Manager- Surgery) taking joint responsibility andaccountability for the management and delivery of the integrated Physiotherapyand Occupational service within WAHT for inpatient and outpatient services.
Our ideal candidate will be passionate about the role ofOccupational Therapy and integrated therapy services.
They will provide seniorprofessional leadership to Occupational Therapists, acting as source ofexpertise in their own professional field and supporting the Head of Therapiesand Director of AHPs in ensuring that each professional group is represented appropriatelywithin WAHTThey will have excellent communication skills and relevantsenior leadership experience at band 8.
This will be a dynamic role, respondingto changing internal and external influences and priorities over time.
Main duties of the job To work alongside the other Therapy Manager takingjoint responsibility and accountability for the management and delivery of the integratedPhysiotherapy and Occupational service within WAHT for inpatient and outpatientservices.Each Therapy manager will lead on the provision ofequitable Therapy within defined portfolio across the three sites of theWorcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, ensuring clinical services are highquality and evidence based.Working as an experiencedautonomous practitioner to undertake a regular Clinical workload in your chosen speciality in order to maintain clinical skills.To give professional leadership to the staff within the defined service and ensure a high quality equitable service is provided and maintained on all acute sites.

TheTherapy Managers will operationally report into the Head of Therapies andprofessionally report into the Director of AHPs EachTherapy manager will lead on the provision of equitable Therapy within defined portfolioacross the three sites of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust,ensuring clinical services are high quality and evidence basedWorking as an experienced autonomous practitioner to undertake a regularClinical workload in your chosen Physiotherapy/Occupational speciality in orderto maintain clinical skills.To give professional leadership to the staff within the defined service andensure a high quality equitable service is provided and maintained on all acutesites.DIMENSIONS: Towork with other members of the therapy management team, members of the trustmanagement team, other healthcare organisations, agencies and professionals toensure leading edge care is provided for patients.
To manage approx.
100 WTE Therapists andsupport workers and manage the budget therapists within the defined portfolio.KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Physiotherapists,Occupational therapists, administrative and clerical staff, orthotic staff andthe wider therapy team.
Medical and nursing staff, GPs, members of the Trustssenior management team (including Director of AHPs and directorate generalmanagers), private sector providers, support services, statutory and voluntaryorganisations, patients and their relatives or carers.
RISK ASSESSMENT: Whilst undertaking the Clinical component of thepost there is an on-going requirement for light physical effort manualtechniques, including repetitive techniques where the Therapist has to maintaina static posture.
There is an occasional need for moderate physical effort manual handling activities.There is aconstant need for prolonged mental effort.

This post carries ahigh level of stress,requiring high levels of continued concentration with frequent interruptions toanswer unrelated or multi-professional queries.The ability to be able to continually work on diverse projectssimultaneously is required.There isoccasional exposure to infections and body fluid such as blood from wounds.
VDU use is ona daily basis.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:MANAGEMENTTo ensure effective Therapy services within defined portfolioare delivered within Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
To match skill mix to workload, set priorities andactively manage resources to achieve an equitable, comprehensive service on allacute sites within the given financial constraints.
Tomanage, review and evaluate existing services to ensure that changing demandson the service and resource issues are addressed and that an equitable serviceis provided across the county.
To plan and implement appropriate developments withinthe defined portfolio, including meeting local and national priorities.To resolve operational issues within the defined portfolio,ensure effective channels of communication are in place and maintained andduties are delegated to site managers and Clinical Leads as appropriate.
To work across professional boundaries with agencies,statutory, voluntary and private organisations countywide.
To work closely with Community colleagues to introduceand develop joint working arrangements between the acute and community sectors.To lead the manpower planning, recruitment and retentionprocess, including succession planning.To ensure accurate therapy service reports withindefined portfolio are produced in a timely manner for the DirectorateManagement team and Head of Therapy Services as required.
Ensure that systems are in place to collect activity andworkload data in order to prepare for payment by results and practice-basedcommissioning and thus ensure Trust income within defined portfolio.To support theDirectorate Management Team in the business and capacity planning process,producing business cases as required and contributing to other specialtiesplans as appropriate.
To investigate and respond to complaints within thegiven time frame and ensure that any identified actions are implemented.To manage the day to day running of the wider therapy management team in the absence of the other Therapy service managers and take the professional lead for Therapies on various issues and projects as required.To manage the budget within the defined portfolio,working closely with the Finance department in budget setting and ensuringfinancial targets are achieved.To monitor, manage and evaluate Service Level Agreements.To authorise payroll documentation, payment of staffexpense and invoices for goods and services.To be responsible for the management of human resourceissues, including maternity leave, change of work patterns, annual and otherleave, grading and capability issues to ensure the workforce meets the caseloadrequirement.To monitor and take any actions required regardingsickness absences in line with Trust policy.To ensure all Therapists within the defined portfolio are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.To use initiative and in conjunction with the site managers, take action to ensure core service provision is maintained by prioritisation of services and redeployment of staff during time of staff shortages.To use the Trust Bank flexibly in order to meet changing demands on services, using them to manage busy periods including weekend and bank holiday cover.To develop and implement departmental and administrative policies and procedures.To chair and guide meetings for the defined portfolio and the wider Therapies Directorate (as required) and ensure there is appropriate representation at meetings.To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level/expertise of the post to ensure the smooth running of the defined portfolio therapy service.To deputise for Head of Therapies during time of absence or unavailabilityTo provide senior professional specific leadership and oversite of own professional group (Physiotherapy or Occupational therapy).
Acting as source of expertise in their own professional field and supporting the Head of Therapies and Director of AHPs in ensuring that each professional group is represented appropriately within WAHTCLINICALTo maintain through the site managers, clinical leads orteam leaders an overview of the quality and appropriateness of clinical therapypractice in defined portfolio teams.To be professionally and legally responsible forpatients under your personal care, using comprehensive assessment, analyticaland diagnostic skills to formulate individual treatment plans using advancedclinical reasoning.
To take into account issues of confidentiality and consent,to maintain accurate and contemporaneous treatment records, to utilise a widerange of treatment skills and to regularly evaluate effectiveness of treatmentsgiven and adjust accordingly.To ensure that all equipment required for patient careis procured in a timely manner and meets standards of hygiene and safety.To ensure through the site managers, clinical leads andteam leaders that documentation regarding patient care is completed, inaccordance with local and National standards.To be responsible through the site managers, clinicalleads and team leaders for the delegation and monitoring of treatment taskscarried out by junior staff, unqualified staff and students.
