Caring Family Support Specialist

A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a skilled individual to join our Children's Disability Service as a Caring Family Support Specialist.
Our multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively to provide specialist services for children and young people with complex disabilities.
Main ResponsibilitiesYou will facilitate effective behaviour management, offer practical support, and engage in direct work with children and their families while upholding our restorative approach.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Collaborating with social workers to support children in need, those on child protection plans, and those in care.
- Providing transport and support to children and their families for various activities, including school, medical appointments, meetings, and social events under the guidance of the allocated social worker.
- Offering intensive support to children and families to maintain family unity or facilitate reunification where appropriate.
- Contributing to assessments and providing practical assistance, which may involve moving and handling, personal care, feeding support, behaviour management, and medication administration (following training by a qualified professional and within the framework of an agreed care plan and risk assessment).
- Being available outside traditional working hours, including evenings and weekends, to provide support to children, families, and carers when required.
We seek an exceptional candidate who:
- Holds a minimum standard of NVQ3 in respect of working with children and their families along with previous experience in supporting children with disabilities.
- Can effectively engage and communicate with disabled children and their parents/carers.
- Has the ability to build strong relationships and deliver interventions to children, families, and carers while functioning effectively in conflict situations.
- Is committed to demonstrating restorative approaches in working with children and families.
