Highway Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Highway Maintenance Specialist to join our City Area Highways team at Norfolk County Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the management of the C1 sector of the Norfolk Highways infrastructure.

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the maintenance and continual improvement of your allocated sector. This includes line management of a team of engineers and technicians to deliver service targets, inspection, identification, planning, and budget control of highway maintenance, and public liaison functions.

You will provide first-line response to traffic management and policy requests, initiate scheme briefs for maintenance schemes, and represent the Area Manager as required. Strong communication skills, experience dealing directly with the public, and a positive and proactive approach are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of engineers and technicians to deliver service targets
  • Oversee maintenance and continual improvement of allocated sector
  • Provide first-line response to traffic management and policy requests
  • Initiate scheme briefs for maintenance schemes
  • Represent the Area Manager as required

Requirements:

  • Good understanding of highway maintenance and engineering principles
  • Proven experience managing a team and third-party suppliers
  • Proven experience of project management
  • Strong communication skills and experience dealing directly with the public
  • Positive and proactive approach
