The occupational therapy team at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced occupational therapist to join their Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) Service. This role involves providing clinical occupational therapy input for children and young people undergoing SDR surgery. The successful candidate will carry out occupational therapy assessment and intervention within this specialist area, providing expert input and advice to children, young people, and families accessing this service as both inpatients and outpatients.

Main Duties:

  • Provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention within the SDR service.
  • Liaise with and support local services to provide evidence-based follow-up interventions once the hospital-based aspects of the patient pathway are complete.
  • Work with families to support their understanding of their child's condition and the impact it may have on their everyday life.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants who work across the hospital, within multiple specialist areas. The post holder will be supported by the Band 8 clinical specialist occupational therapist leading the neurodisability service through regular supervision and will have access to both our department in-service training and leadership programmes run by the Education department.

Person Specification:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration.
  • Continued professional development across clinical, research, and leadership pillars.

Desirable:

  • Post graduate training in standardised paediatric specific occupational therapy assessment and evidence-based interventions.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Enhanced clinical reasoning and analytical skills in the management of complex conditions in the speciality.
  • Evidence of leadership and supervisory skills in an occupational therapy/healthcare setting.
  • Able to work cooperatively and constructively within OT and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate good relationships across different professions.
