Wimborne Minster, Dorset, United Kingdom Dorset Council Full time
Dorset Council is looking for a skilled Practitioner for Children and Young People to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive environment for children and young people to thrive.About the Job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our new service as a Youth Practitioner, with a zero-hours contract, based in the Wimborne area. You will provide care and support to children and young people in a short break setting, working within a small staff team, and potentially providing outreach support to children and families in their own homes.

The priorities for our children are clear: they should stay in Dorset, receive the best start in life through good care provision and education opportunities, and have access to training that enables them to thrive.

As a Practitioner for Children and Young People, you will ensure a safe and nurturing environment where children and young people with disabilities can reach their full potential.

Dorset Council is committed to supporting its employees' growth and development. We offer a comprehensive training program that will help you develop your skills and advance your career.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support young people with their daily lives, activities, and promote community participation and social inclusion, while helping children develop essential life skills.
  • Form and maintain positive relationships with our children, young people, and families, as well as partner agencies and allocated social workers who form a team around the child.
  • Be ambitious for our children, creative, and passionate about ensuring children and young people who are disabled achieve the best outcomes and have access to opportunities to flourish.
Requirements:
  • You will be a kind and caring person with a passion for improving lives, ambitious for our children, flexible, and creative in approach.
  • You will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be flexible in your approach so we can creatively support each child individually and work together to find solutions.
  • You must also have some experience working with children and families.
Additional Information:
  • You must be able to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as part of your role and commit to a minimum of one shift per week.
  • You must also hold, or be happy to work towards, the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare, to be completed within two years of employment.
  • This post requires significant travel.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary (£25,000 - £30,000 per year)
  • Access to a range of employee benefits
  • Participation in an organisation that supports each other's growth and success
  • Opportunities for personal development and career progression

We value diversity and are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. We offer an interview to everyone who declares a disability and meets the essential criteria for the role. If you need any reasonable adjustments, please let us know on your application.
