Job Summary:

This role provides front-line health and safety support, advice, and expert guidance to branch managers and regional directors. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing group and statutory health and safety reporting requirements, investigating lost-time incidents, and delivering the second line of defense health and safety audit program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake health and safety branch reviews (second line of defense audits) in line with business risk profile.
  • Support branch managers in resolving health and safety-related queries and problems.
  • Deliver health and safety-related training in line with the business health and safety plan or as a result of a specific training need identified.
  • Manage the lost-time incident verification and investigation process, supporting line managers in ensuring that the just culture principles are correctly applied.
  • Work with human resources to support line managers with the return-to-work process for colleagues off as a result of a lost-time incident, ensuring robust plans are in place to help them return to a normal way of life as quickly as possible.
  • Complete all RIDDOR reporting requirements for the region.
  • Review various health and safety data streams for the region, including near misses and self-assessment returns, to determine quality insights that can be used to support branch managers and regional directors in reducing risk.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with branch managers and members of colleague-led health and safety and driver forums in the region, ensuring they can provide constructive feedback and input to the forum.

Requirements:

  • An in-depth understanding of UK health and safety legislation and a pragmatic approach to applying risk reduction methods.
  • A minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate and at least 18 months of post-qualification experience in a medium to high-risk business.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, enabling the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business and influence and gain buy-in for safety and change.
