About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join our team at Sweco UK. As a key member of our internal H&S team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of our employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactive H&S Culture: Promote a positive H&S culture, best practice, and compliance to policies and procedures, working with others to increase H&S awareness across all areas of the business in line with company and legislative requirements.
  • H&S Strategic Plan: Work with the H&S Manager and team to deliver the H&S elements of the strategic plan and provide support on all H&S matters.
  • Office H&S Representatives: Provide support to office H&S Representatives to ensure legal compliance across all Sweco offices in the UK/Ireland.
  • H&S Advice: Provide advice to colleagues on H&S matters such as accident and incident investigation, CDM, project-related requirements, DSE assessments, legal compliance, training needs, and safety procedures.
  • Audits and Inspections: Support the H&S Manager with internal and external H&S audits, e.g., providing and producing documentation, audit prep, attendance in audits, completing audits, and closing out actions.
  • Reporting and Statistics: Maintain the internal H&S systems, ensuring all information is available and compliant, and produce and monitor accurate reports/statistics to the management team on H&S performance.
  • Incident Investigations: Complete accident/incident/near-miss investigations and assist with solutions to eliminate, reduce risk, or reoccurrence.
  • Presentations and Training: Present at Sweco induction and internal events as required.
  • Bid and Tender Support: Support bid and tender submission with the production of H&S-related information.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: GradIOSH (or working towards) as a minimum, with Chartered membership preferable, along with a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent to a level 5/6 qualification in H&S (or working towards). Ideally, you will also have a current CSCS card.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant H&S experience working in the UK, preferably in the construction/civil engineering industry, with demonstrable experience of delivering operational delivery of H&S.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge across relevant HSE legislation, compliance, and regulations.
  • CDM Regulations: Good understanding and experience of working with the CDM Regulations.
  • ISO 45001: Good working knowledge and experience of ISO 45001.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, recognizing your own impact on others and having the ability to adapt to suit your audience.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, and contractors.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to work on your own initiative, organizing and prioritizing your workload to ensure timescales are met, with good problem-solving/contingency planning skills.
  • IT and Systems Skills: Strong IT and systems skills.
  • Passion for H&S: Passionate about health, safety, and the environment and understand the importance of projecting a professional image to clients and colleagues at all times.
