Job Description

  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
  • Assist with meal serving, respecting residents' food preferences.
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper food storage and handling.
  • Collaborate with the Food and Nutrition Manager to control food costs, waste, and ordering.
  • Monitor kitchen inventory and communicate with relevant teams to coordinate supply ordering.
  • Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long Term Care regulations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with special events and catering as required.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Successful completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal certification.
  • Hold a valid Food Handler's Certificate and maintain it up-to-date.
  • Prior experience in a Long Term Care setting or with seniors is desirable, but equivalent experience in institutions, healthcare, restaurants, or hospitality is accepted.
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's Long-term care home COVID-19 immunization policy.
  • Must be physically able to handle the demands of the position, including lifting, bending, working in varying temperatures, and maintaining hand hygiene.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) in English.
