Job Title: Highway Engineer

Permanent Contract | £41,173 to £45,442 per annum (Scale K) | 37 hours per week

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Engineer to join our City Area Highways team at Norfolk County Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the management of the C1 sector of the Norfolk Highways infrastructure.

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the maintenance and continual improvement of your allocated sector. This includes line management of a team of engineers and technicians to deliver service targets. You will be involved in the inspection, identification, planning, and budget control of highway maintenance, as well as public liaison functions for the same area.

As a Highway Engineer, you will need to undertake responses in person and attend site meetings as necessary. You will provide first-line response to traffic management and policy requests, initiate scheme briefs for maintenance schemes, and represent the Area Manager as required.

To be considered for this role, you will need a good understanding of highway maintenance and engineering principles, proven experience putting them into practice, and experience managing a team and third-party suppliers. Strong communication skills, experience dealing directly with the public, and a positive and proactive approach are also essential.
