Position Overview

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust is pleased to present an exceptional opportunity for a newly established Acute Care Paediatric Consultant role. This position is integral to our dedicated team at Furness General Hospital, a facility situated near the scenic Lake District, recognized as England's largest National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We are in search of enthusiastic, driven, and forward-thinking professionals who are eager to contribute to our expanding team of consultant paediatricians. In this role, you will be pivotal in providing healthcare services for Children and Young People throughout the Morecambe Bay region, with the capacity to operate autonomously while being part of a supportive and innovative team.

We welcome candidates with special interests that align with our department's needs. Particularly, we are keen on applicants with expertise in Respiratory Paediatrics or Neurology, but we are also open to supporting the pursuit of a SPIN module in other specialties as necessary. Additionally, we encourage candidates interested in developing new special interests in these areas.

Key Responsibilities

Furness General Hospital offers a 1:7 on-call arrangement for acute paediatric services, including the Special Care Baby Unit, where we implement a consultant of the week model.

About Our Organization

Our operations span three primary hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH), Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH), along with several community health care facilities.

FGH and RLI are equipped with a variety of General Hospital services, including full Emergency Departments, Critical Care units, and numerous Consultant-led services.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice and entry on the Specialist Register or in receipt of CCT within six months of the interview.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (or equivalent).
  • Completion of Specialist Training (or equivalent).
  • Current APLS/NLS certification (or equivalent) and level 3 Child Protection Training.
  • Experience in managing acute and non-acute paediatric conditions, including medical, surgical, child protection, resuscitation, and neonatal care.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical audit.
  • Experience supervising junior staff and relevant personnel in other disciplines.
  • Recent active involvement in Medical Education and multi-professional training.
  • Effective communication and liaison skills with patients, their families, and colleagues across all disciplines.
  • Able to travel as required for the role.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Evidence of participation in relevant professional meetings and courses, meeting CPD requirements.
  • Training in clinical supervision skills.
  • Previous experience in a management role.
  • Demonstrated development of leadership skills within the workplace.
  • Completion of Educational Supervision training.
