Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting advanced practitioner specimen dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens.
Key Responsibilities- Dissect and examine surgical specimens to provide accurate and detailed reports
- Select and freeze representative tissue samples for histopathology reports
- Use digital dictation systems to create macro descriptions of samples
- Maintain highly developed skills and experience in dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens
- Ensure all specimens for decalcification are monitored and processed promptly
- BSc degree or equivalent in biological/biomedical sciences or a related subject
- Experience of carrying out routine laboratory tasks and following SOPs
- Understanding of basic Health and Safety in healthcare/laboratory environments
- Awareness of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA)
- Experience of working in a customer-facing environment
- MSc degree in a related subject
- Experience of PCR-based assays and extracting DNA/RNA using standard kits
- Cutting tissue sections by microtomy/cryotomy
- Awareness of confidentiality and data protection in relation to patient information
