Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for dissecting surgical specimens, selecting tissue samples for histopathology reports, and maintaining a high level of expertise in dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens.
Key Responsibilities- Dissecting all surgical specimens
- Selecting the areas of tissue to sample for histopathology reports
- Selecting and freezing representative normal and tumour tissue for the tissue bank store
- Using the digital dictation system to create macro descriptions of samples used in departmental reports
- Maintaining highly developed skills and experience in dissection and examination of bone and soft tissue surgical specimens
- Ensuring all specimens for decalcification are monitored regularly and processed as soon as possible
- A BSc degree or equivalent in biological/biomedical sciences or a related subject
- Experience of carrying out routine laboratory tasks by following SOPs
- Understanding of basic Health and Safety in healthcare/laboratory environments
- Awareness of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA)
- Experience of working in a customer-facing environment
- An interest in pursuing a career in science/healthcare/research related work
