Key Responsibilities
  1. Create a high-performing team by providing professional leadership, direction, and values-based guidance. Develop strategies for succession planning, ensuring service continuity through competent engineers who prioritize safety, compliance, and performance.
  2. Lead the implementation of the annual maintenance business plan, prioritizing work correctly and managing volumes delivered within budgetary constraints.
  3. Manage the engineering team to deliver holistic asset management, identifying deterioration rates, effectiveness of maintenance intervention, and optimal renewal timescales to reduce overall asset costs.
  4. Ensure compliance with the management assurance process, identifying non-compliance risks and implementing corrective actions.
  5. Develop and manage the engineering team to deliver health and safety goals, monitoring staff safety, training, and competence. Promote culture change and drive continuous improvement.
  6. Develop strategies to maintain a flexible, skilled, and effective workforce at all times, while ensuring adequate resources are available.
  7. Direct the timely assignment and discharge of Construction Design Management (CDM) duties for all maintenance activities.

This role requires a Chartered Engineer with experience in maintenance management, processes, and techniques. Essential skills include knowledge of compliance management processes, operational railway environment, and CDM regulations. Proven interpersonal, influencing, communication, and organization skills are also necessary.
