We are seeking a highly skilled operations manager to join our team at Network Rail. As a key leader, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of our railway network.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the railway operating code, service recovery, contingency planning, and railway operating and maintenance practices. You will be responsible for managing and coordinating contingency plans across route boundaries for engineering works and significant events, supporting cross-route train operations, and seeking opportunities to improve contingency arrangements as conditions change.

You will engage in stakeholder management, making regulation decisions on long-distance, freight, and other cross-route operations to enhance customer and passenger experiences. Additionally, you will coordinate and facilitate the management of significant risk items of national interest, maintaining situational awareness of the national safety overview and escalating issues as necessary.

A crucial part of your role will be leading the national approach for critical infrastructure contingency plans in collaboration with the Department for Transport (DfT), particularly for major incidents and severe national weather events. Your leadership and strategic coordination will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of our railway network.

**Essential Criteria:

  • Ability to attain Institute of Railway Operators Member level
  • Extensive knowledge of the railway operating code, service recovery, contingency planning and railway operating and maintenance practices
  • Experience in operational management in a safety-critical Industry
  • Experience of incident management at strategic and tactical level
  • Able to demonstrate real-time railway incident planning skills
  • Proven verbal communication and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making
  • Geographical understanding of the railway network
  • Ability to attain Rail Incident Commander competence

**Salary:** £65,000 - £85,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
