We are seeking an experienced People Director to join our client, Ambition Institute, and lead their human resources and professional development functions.

Ambition is an education charity that supports teachers at every stage of their careers. They aim to create a system where every child can thrive, regardless of their background.

The People Director will report directly to the COO and have three direct reports: Head of HR, Associate Director of Professional Development, and internal communications manager. Their primary responsibility will be setting the strategic vision for the organisation.

This role requires strong leadership and governance skills, with a focus on developing and implementing a professional development strategy that delivers for Ambition. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO, Executive Committee (ExCo), and Board of Trustees.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the HR and professional development strategy, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, while ensuring high-quality services aligned with organisational values and priorities.
  • Leadership and Governance: Provide values-based leadership, supporting organisational effectiveness, accountability, and inclusion, with regular reporting to trustees and executive teams to drive mission-aligned outcomes.
  • Organisational Capability: Advise on people challenges, manage organisational change sensitively, and support complex areas like succession planning to ensure sustainability and growth.
  • Employee Engagement: Enhance employee engagement, culture, and retention, positioning Ambition as an employer of choice, while leading and developing a high-performing HR team.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Promote teamwork and partnership through effective communication and relationship-building, ensuring organisation-wide alignment with people-focused initiatives.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Utilise performance metrics and people data to inform strategic decisions, driving measurable improvements and impactful organisational practices.

The ideal candidate will have proven success in strategic people and culture leadership roles, working with board-level executives on issues like pay, recruitment, development, DEI, and employment law. A salary of £80,000 + excellent benefits is offered, with the position based in London, near King's Cross, and hybrid working arrangements available.
