Student Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Student Support Officer to join our Business and Management Centre at a leading university.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of academic regulations and pastoral support mechanisms, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Actively engaging with the professional advisory system to promote student support services.
  • Liaising with Programme Directors, Senior Tutors, and the Associate Dean (Education) to identify and intervene in areas requiring student support.
  • Fostering strong student engagement and effective operation of Student Staff Liaison Committees.
  • Leading the recruitment and training of student course representatives and ambassadors.
  • Addressing welfare and academic matters by contacting students, scheduling appointments, and conducting face-to-face meetings.
  • Documenting referrals and actions taken to ensure student support needs are met, either directly or through appropriate channels.
  • Maintaining regular contact with students resitting out of attendance to support their academic advice needs.
  • Guiding students to central services and support tutors for additional assistance.
  • Analysing data sets to support student engagement and attainment initiatives.
  • Participating in welcome week activities, open days, and UCAS events to enhance student engagement.
  • Developing action plans in response to student surveys, with a focus on inclusivity and diversity.
  • Implementing strategies to improve student retention and success within the School.

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Proven experience in a student support role within higher education.
  • Strong understanding of academic regulations and pastoral support mechanisms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with higher education support services and resources.
  • Commitment to professional development and staying informed on issues affecting students in higher education.
