Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Family Services Specialist to join our team in the Child Protective Services (CPS) program. As a key member of our team, you will provide case management to a small caseload, orient new staff, supervise the team in the absence of the supervisor, and provide support to staff. You will also assist in planning and developing policies and procedures, evaluate service effectiveness, and apply knowledge of Virginia policies in children's services in CPS. Additionally, you will provide on-call supervision to staff, represent the department on the Family Assessment Planning Team (FAPT), and prepare closed cases for appeal. You will also review court reports completed by staff and attend training designed for professional growth and enhancing job performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide case management to a small caseload
  • Orient new staff and supervise the team in the absence of the supervisor
  • Provide support to staff and assist in planning and developing policies and procedures
  • Evaluate service effectiveness and apply knowledge of Virginia policies in children's services in CPS
  • Provide on-call supervision to staff and represent the department on the Family Assessment Planning Team (FAPT)
  • Prepare closed cases for appeal and review court reports completed by staff
  • Attend training designed for professional growth and enhancing job performance

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or in the human services field
  • Two years of experience in human services required
  • Master's degree in social work preferred
  • Three years minimum of Child Protective Services experience desired
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to supervise staff
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and solution-focused
  • Strong engagement, assessment, and interviewing skills
  • Assertive and confident, especially when being challenged
  • Independent thinker and decision-maker
  • Strong organization, time management, and computer skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict
  • Good personal boundaries and self-care

You will work outside of normal business hours, including providing on-call supervision for emergencies 24 hours a day on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays.
